For all the Infiniti drivers out there, here is an update from the conversation I had today with the Infiniti bluetooth helpdesk. They told me that this problem exists with every Infiniti that is a 2009 or newer that has a navigation system, and is trying to pair with an Iphone 5. Most often the phone is able to pair and is able to call out, but cannot receive calls. The call comes in and when you press answer, the call comes into the phone, not through the bluetooth. His recommendation is to answer the phone the way you normally do and then hit the phone symbol on your steering wheel. He says this works about 50% of the time. I also find that the slower I am driving the more likely it is that I can get the phone to answer. It always works when I am in park, and hardly ever works when I am on the highway.
This Inifiniti guy also told me that they have had over 1500 calls so far reporting this problem. And, they feel it is Infiniti's problem to fix. Although they realize that Apple created the problem for them by coming out with this new version of bluetooth, they cannot depend on Apple to fix it, even though they know that there are many other types of cars that have the same problem. And they feel this way because they do not want to lose customers over it. So they've got 25 Infiniti engineers working on it, and if they can come up with a fix, we would all have to bring our cars to the dealer to get the bluetooth software updated. To see if this ends up being the solution, go to the Infiniti web site and keep checking on the bluetooth page.
I also talked to an Apple senior advisor this week who was the first Apple representative who admitted to me that they knew they had this problem and were working to fix it. So I am hopeful that between Apple and Infiiniti, someone will come up with a solution before I kill myself in my car.
