iPhone 5 Bluetooth issues with car

Same exact issue with my Infinity M37x. Worked fine with my old palm pre, but the iphone 5 will not let me answer a call. Every few calls the phone actually works the way it should, but most calls the bluetooth switches back to the radio, and the phone call is stuck on the phone which then has to be unlocked and moved to a different source - very dangerous maneuver while driving. I called Apple a few times on this and they have no suggestions....

Good news for one piece of hardware.

My Kenwood KDC-X696 works beautifully with an iPhone 4 (iOS 5 and iOS 6), iPad 3 (iOS 5), and iPhone 5 on iOS6.

This includes the USB jack via my USB to Lightning adapter and also by Bluetooth. Placing calls (from phone or stereo), receiving calls (from phone or stereo), looking up the address book on the stereo, Bluetooth audio for music (with track information and the head controls the playlist fine), music via the USB jack (controlled by the head) with track information, and other audio over USB or Bluetooth which includes map guidance by Apple's Maps and Navigon. It also charges over USB to the 30 pin adapter or the Lightning adapter.

I recently chose this stereo for an older car because Kenwood's site specifically lists it as compatible with iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 and iOS 6 over USB and Bluetooth. Some of Kenwood's stereos are listed as incompatible, and most of those are described as relying on Parrot for Bluetooth connectivity (The KDC-X696 is described on Kenwood's site as using their own firmware, not Parrot). I think that's an underlying theme with other manufacturers and car companies.

Anyway, I wish all of the stereos worked, but this one is working fine if anyone is looking for one that works as expected. Pioneer's site also lists which stereos are compatible, and I would like to assume it's accurate.

I stumbled onto a workaround for my iPhone 5 and 2011 Infiniti QX: When a call comes in and displays on the LCD screen, "Answer" will be highlighted. Using the steering wheel controls, toggle down to "Hold call", then back up to "Answer" and press Enter.

I got very excited when I saw your posted this morning CPA. I had by wife call me on my Infinit M37x 3 times this morning and it didn't work.

This is very frustrating. I have a new 2012 Infiniti G37XS sedan, and a new Iphone5, and I can't answer an incoming call via my bluetooth. I wouldn't be that frustrated if I had a 10 year old car and an older iphone, but you would think these things would have been worked out somehow before the iphone5 came out...from either the automotive manufacturers or Apple, whomever is really to blame.

Count me in.

I have a Garmin (BMW) Navigator IV GPS on my R1200 GS Adventure. iPhone 5 connected via bluetooth to my GPS. Calls connect and then after 5-7 seconds disconnects. I assume its iOS 6 thats the culprit. Hello Apple..

I'm also having similar bluetooth issues with my iPhone 5 and brand new 2013 Acura RDX. I have submitted a bug report to Apple and reported the problem to Acura's Handfreeelink group. Acura responded and said the following

"Thank you for contacting us in regards to your HandsFreeLink system. We are sorry to hear about the issues you are experiencing. At this time the iPhone 5 has not yet been tested. We cannot say whether or not the phone is fully compatible until it completes the testing process. When a new phone is released, it is up to the carrier to send the phone in to be tested with the HandsFreeLink system. Once a phone is recieved, it generally takes between three and six weeks to complete the testing process.

We are aware of the issue with the iPhone 5 and receiving phone calls, and any kind of change that will resolve this issue will need to be made to the phone and would come from Apple or your cellular provider, most likely in the form if an iOS update. We apologize for any inconvenience."

I have a 2012 Honda CR-V EX-L and have the same problem. I had no problems with my previous iPhone 4S running iOS 6 but I cannot say the same for my Black iPhone 5 64GB. I have no issues pairing my iPhone 5 and dialing calls using the steering controls, but the problems seems only when answering calls like everyone else discribes on this thread thread.

My workaround is to answer the incoming call using the steering wheel answer button, then change the source on the iphone to speaker mode, and then finally change the source again back to Handsfreelink. The problem is that all this frantically takes my eyes of the road, the person on the other line can't hear me, and I'm yelling "hold on, wait a second" while I am chaning the source back to Handsfreelink. Its distracting, dangeroud on the road, and furstrating for all the callers.

This issue is clearly an iPhone5 issue since all previous versions of iPhone running an array of different iOS versions never had this problem. I also know its not my iPhone 5 since I have been able to replciate using my wife's and friend's iPhone 5.

Apple, please address this issue - I hoped 6.0.1 would fix it, but it clearly did not. Between this issue, and the iPhone 5 WiFi issues that are still present, the iPhone 5 is driving me crazy!

I have an Acura RDX 2010 -- Have any of you tried renaming your iPhone? I renamed mine and had no problem pairing it and receiving calls without doing anything other than pressing the button on the steering wheel. I read that solution a woman posted on some other page and it worked right away - no problems!

Please forgive me my ignorance: what should I do to rename my iPhone and get the problem fixed?

Go to "Settings" and then "General."

Then choose "About" and "Name."

Click on the current name and change it to something different.

Then have your car search for a new Bluetooth device (had to look in my owner's manual to remember how to set up a new one - don't expect it just to "find" it on its own. Mine wouldn't.)

Once I renamed it, and repaired it, it worked just like it used to except there's like a half-second delay when it picks up so I take a little longer to say hello. Never drops.

Hope it works for the rest of you and thanks to the woman who originally posted this ages ago!

And yo - it's not Apple's responsibility to make sure that something it makes works with everything else in the world. They wouldn't be innovators if that was the case. We'd all be sitting here whining for the next version of something that would never come out until they tested it with everything under the sun. Not their problem!

You can bet with something like this, someone somewhere has figured it out. I googled and googled until I came across this suggestion which worked right away.

Where there's a will...there's a way!
