iPhone 5 bought in the USA does not send text messages in Russian networks

When I was buying it in an American Apple Store the salesperson said that it will work fine with European, Russian and any other sim-cards. But in practice I have problems with sending SMS (voice calls, 3G and receiving messages work perfectly). Perhaps I should change the number of SMS center? Is there any way to do it?

"whatever you have told in the US"

Ethmoid, so seems either Apple is failing BIG training its retail sales force or they are so scared of Android sales to the point they are pushing iPhone 5 to meet sales goals at any cost. It's unacceptable you are induced to error and buy a locked device when asked specifically for an unlocked iPhone. The conduct of Apple retail employees is the matter of this discussion now.

So we are just hundreds of dumbs who bought an iPhone in US whitout any idea of what we are doing, letting Apple store sellers telling us what ever they want to sell their products and we shouldn't complain on the Apple user forum because there is nothing wrong ... what a joke

... so Ethmoid, when more than 30000 people complain about Apple map on this forum they shouldn't right ? because anyway Apple doesn't monitoring the forum and it will change nothing ... again what a joke

I'm not saying don't discuss it in this forum. Go ahead and discuss it all you like and you will get help from others users, but if you want to tell Apple specifically, then send them feedback specifically.

No, I'm not saying anything about anybody being right or wrong and yes, Apple maps are a bit of a disaster, which is why I used the shortcut clip to go back to Google maps on my phone.

All I am trying to say is that if you purchase an iPhone 5 in the US, then you need to be careful because unlocked iPhone 5's in the US don't exist at the moment so won't work in Russia. Full price and contract free does not mean unlocked, so perhaps there is a chance that you have indeed been misled and mis sold the phone by either a Sprint or Apple employee.

If you had wanted a truly unlocked iPhone 5, then perhaps the UK would have been a better choice, as all UK iPhone 5's from the Apple store will be sold fully unlocked and without a contract.

Hi Ethmoid, everybody here was aware of every points you mentioned, we all knew that there are no unlocked iphone 5 in US and for this reason we all paid a full focus attention on what apple store sellers told us and this is the problem ... Once again please don't make like we are hundreds of stupid guys spending more than 700$ without any idea if it will work or not, Apple store told us that even locked in US it will work outside, none Apple store staff made your answer, every Apple staff said it was ok, you can buy and it will work, is that clear ? Apple store ripped off our money by mistake or ....
