iPhone 5 bought in the USA does not send text messages in Russian networks

When I was buying it in an American Apple Store the salesperson said that it will work fine with European, Russian and any other sim-cards. But in practice I have problems with sending SMS (voice calls, 3G and receiving messages work perfectly). Perhaps I should change the number of SMS center? Is there any way to do it?

as a matter of fact and despite what apple sales told me in the store, i went and talked to a Sprint representative in the apple store who also confirmed the same thing to me. To convince me, he showed me what networks the phone would support on th back of the phone box.

The rude apple teck rep and not to my surprise after being so rude on the phone suggested i fly back to the U to return the phone if I dont like it. What a great sale and after sales support. I wonder what would apple senior management do if they know about this.

Definitely this is not a Sprint problem!!!

And the problem is not only with who bought the Sprint iPhone 5 to be used as GSM phone outside USA. Sprint customers are having the same problem. Why? Simple, Sprint in USA use CDMA, but when a Sprint customer is out of the USA, their phones will use GSM, and here is the problem. Even if the iPhone is "locked" and under Sprint contract, the iPhone 5 will not send SMS also. So, this is why I always said the problem is not with any kind of "lock", but a problem or with the Phone firmware, or iOS, etc,... Again, the Sprint and the Verizon phones are absolutely the same!!!

Well, I am currently working some issues with the Supervisor of all the Senior Advisors of an AppleCare call center... I sent him an email asking him if he knew anything about this problem while he was dealing with my other issue, he answered this:

"This actually a known issue and they are working to resolve it. There is also an emerging issue domestically with AT&T and MMS. At this point I don't know if its a software issue on our part or a provisioning issue on the carriers end. But it is being looked into."

I think this will be fixed at some point in the near future. Everybody should keep calling AppleCare so they know this is widespread and that they should do something about it.

I am having the exact same issue with my iPhone 5 purchased from Sprint last week in the United States. When I purchased the phone the sales agent called Sprint World wide Services and had the phone unlocked for international use. I am currently working in SAUDI ARABIA. I installed my NANO Sim issued from my local telecom provider. All the features work great on the phone except I am not able to send SMS on my local GSM network. I can receieve SMS ... no problem. At first thought I thought it may be the cellular provider.... So I tried 2 other providers here in the Kingdom. The same problem is still persisting. Somebody please help.... This is an annoying issue. I spent 1 hour on the phone with Apple Tech support, about a hour in to the call I was cut off. This is not an issue for my local carrier. This is an Apple issue. Please FIX ASAP.

Same in Argentina! With Sprint iPhone 5 CDMA. I using it with a nano Sim with any carrear.

I imput my IMEI in a web page who verify the state of the lock or unlock iPhones and seed " Your iPhone is Unlock".

I hope Apple update the iOS 6 to get fix this really big problem for your u$s 708 or more iPhone 5 customers.

This is a really shame!!

Pleace Apple, open your eyes and recover your faithful customers!!! Don't get it lost!!!
