Same problem here. My support representative credited my account, apparently, and then asked me to download a "fresh copy" of the movie, but the problem still hasn't been fixed yet, so my fresh copy plays exactly like the original one.

Seems like the studio has burned in a set of subtitles, and iTunes is force-captioning the same scene. One or the other, guys, but not both, please.

I have found a resolution. By default the subtitle track is off.

Step 1) Turn on subtitles, but select a language other than english, I chose Danish.

Step 2) Allow the Subtitle Menu to time out and disappear.

Step 2) Open the subtitle menu again and turn the subtitles off.

All 3 steps can be done while the movie is automatically paused. The result, no more iOS Video Player subtitles. For what it's worth the subtitles that are burned into the movie shouldn't be there so it isn't Apple that messed this up.

First, I have now succeeded in using this process successfully on six different devices. They are:

iPad 3 with iOS 5.1.1

iPad 1 with iOS 5.1

iPhone 4s with iOS 5.1

iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1

iPhone 3gs with iOS 5.1.1

iPod Touch 4th Gen with iOS 5.1.1

In Step 2, you have to either allow the Subtitle Menu to time out, or you have to press "Done" to manually exit. Using either tact, you must see the subtitles change to the other language you selected in Step 1 before roceeding to Step 2. In my case, I had to wait fo the subtitles to change from English to Danish. Then, I reopened the Subtitle Menu and turned all subtitles "Off".

Wish67, you were correct when you said that the problem was with the digital content. The problem is the following. The movie has subtitles hard-coded into it which is a practice that should have died out in the 90's. The second set of subtitles is the Auto-Subtitling that occurs when a language is spoken that does not match the selected audio file. This Auto-Subtitling ensures that the subtitles shown match the language of the audio file selected. If you are listening to the movie in English you see English subttles. If you are watching th movie in Spanish, you will see Spanish subtitles. Likewise for Danish, Chinese, etc... Now, the hard-coded subtitltes will never, ever, go away so there will always be English subtitles while the Russians, Indians, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo speak Russian and Indian, the proper subtitles are displayed. When you turn on the Danish subtitles, allow the player to reset, then turn the subtitles off the Video Player in iOS stops running all subtitles. I have done this with six devices, and I have talked several friends through resolving this issue as well.

Now, this should not be an issue at all. After all, we all paid for the movie so it should work. If this doesn't work for you, then I would do what others suggest and seek a refund. But, Disney doesn't admit fault often and so I wouldn't hold my breath for a solution.

I have figured out another way . . . however, admittedly, it is a "scorched earth" work around.

I used a free program called Subler. This allows you to see all the different video/audio channels/tracks that each file has.

Once I opened the files (both HD and SD) via Subler, I deleted ALL of the subtitles tracks for all the different languages in both. Saved. Exit out.

Then, I deleted the file from iTunes, but obviously kept the files. I reloaded the files (both the HD and SD versions) back in. Now, there is no subtitle track to load in. Of course, if you ever plan on watching this and you want the subtitles, this route probably isn't for you.

*Note: I initially tried to delete just the english version track. However, iTunes automatically substituted the Spanish subtitles in - thus, I had to delete all the subtitle tracks.
