iPad 3 and iOS 6 - Home button not working

Same issue here: New IPAd 3, working PERFECT with IOS 5.1. After upgrade to IOS 6 the home button started to fail. Rotating the IPAD fix the isse, so it's a software problem, not a hardware one. I've reported it to apple, but they need to fix it, it's frustrating. I though I was the only one, happy to hear I'm not alone! Greetings.

Apple called in response to my continued complaints to sales rep and enterprise support ticket. They said it's a hardware problem and that was that. I asked them if they've read this thread and they said it was sent to the developer/engineers and decided my issue was still hardware. So frustrating.

Obviously, it's not a hardware issue, because it has happened to a lot of us, and exactly when we installed IOS 6.. IOS 5 perfect, IOS 6 not: It's not possible to be hardware... And it fixes when you rotate the screen... it's software bug. We have to keep on reporting that as a bug. It'd be a nice idea to test the button in ios 5 again with a downgrade. Greetings.

My issue was decided as hardware issue because it consistently never works, but I think all others in this thread so far with intermittent issues have Siri available on their device (iphone or ipad3). It's happening on ipad2 for me.

Even if rotation temporarily fixes it it could still be a hardware problem. Just suppose there is a tiny piece of debris inside the switch or a broken switch part. Rotating the iPad may move the debris/part to allow temporary functioning of the switch.

If this is a software problem why isn't everyone running iOS 6 having the problem?

I reported the bug as well and it doesn't appear that anyone has looked at it?

Here is a thought. For all of us who have an iPad 3 experiencing this issue and are within the warrenty period, take you iPad back to Apple and have it replaced. We all know it is a software issue. But if they contend that it is a hardware issue, then make them solve it like a hardware issue. If enough people start returning devices, the issue might get some elevated attention.

Interesting question. It almost seems like a virus affecting those iPad2 or 3's going haywire with the new update.

I did a new test: one time the button was blocked (I pressed it all the time and it didn't work) carefully, without moving the IPAD a single milimetter, and letting it rest in the same position, I reseted it. Once started, the button worked....

I have exactly the same problem on my iPad 2 after update to iOS 6. There is so many users with the same problem and I don't think that this is hardware problem. It must be iOS 6 bug. I also tried all advices but problem disappear just for short time. Hope fix will be available soon.

It is not a hardware problem. It is something to do with the processor being busy, as I can make the Home button work again by closing Safari tabs for example.

I just got my iPad 3 today upgraded to ios6 and noticed my home button not working sometimes too. I had to rotate the screen to make it work

Same problem here with ipad 2 and ipod 4G.

Both worked right for a while and then started to show laggy or even not working home button.

Recalibrating it seems to help but the effect vanishes soon!!

I've also tried to downgrade my ipod 4g to ios 5.1 but the problem is still there!

That's so weird...

I can't really get it...it could be an hardware problem on the ipod but...everything started after updating to ios 6, no crashes or falls, no water or any other reason not to work...and then the ipad 2 showed the same issue...

Hardly can I trust the reason is a faulty hardware!

iPod touch 4th Gen same issue, home button sometimes does not work, at times I have to restart iPod. This happened after upgrading to iOS6
