iPad 3 and iOS 6 - Home button not working

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but it's worked for my iPad 2 that started running into home button issues directly after upgrading to IOS6.

Recalibrate Home Button

Step 1) – The very first thing you will need to do is launch a stock iOS app like the Calendar, Stocks, YouTube etc.

Step 2) – Once the stock iOS app of your choice has been launched you will need to hold the power button (located on the top of your iOS Device) until the Slide To Power Off toggle appears.

Step 3) – As soon as you see the Slide To Power Off toggle appear you will need to quickly hold the home button until this toggle disappears.

Step 4) – When it does disappear you will have successfully recalibrated your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad’s home button.

With your newly recalibrated home button, you should notice you have a much more responsive home button.

I did it, but it only works for a time. Greetings.

I have experienced this on two devices, the first is a second hand iPhone 4, and the other is a brand new iPod Touch 4g. If it wasn't for the new iPod touch exibiting similar behaviour I would have assumed the second hand iPhone's home button was just getting old.

Sometimes when I'm on the home screen I press the button, it doesn't respond, so I press it again, and the result is the multitasking panel at the bottom of the screen is shown. So it has registered a double click rather than not receiving the first click and responding to the second click. I also have a similar experience on the lock screen where the second attempt to click the home button brings up the music controls as it would for a double click.

So in these cases it feels like the OS is busy and buffering up the inputs until it gets round to them and then processing them both togeather. The iPhone is worse than the iPod touch so I'm going to try and clean the button and see if it improves to only be as bad as the iPod.

My IPAD 3 is 4 months old only, that's the reason because I have my doubts about the fact being a hardware issue (it's new and it worked great with ios 5.1). Greetings.

Yes, the same thing is happening with my iPad 3. Home button unresponsive. I get stuck on screens and cannot navigate away. I am taking it to the Apple store to have it checked out.

I'm adding my voice to the chorus of iPad 3 users who are having home-button issues after the iOS upgrade. Incredibly frustrating to own this great device, only to have it sabotaged by the latest iOS. Shocked that a minor update hasn't been released yet.

My home button also has stopped working. IPad 3 update IOS6. Update faulty or faulty IPad home button. All I know is that I paid my money for something that has stopped working. Apple sort it.

This has happened to me twice so far. A quick reboot solves the problem for me each time...

> Hold the top button until you see "Slide to power off"

> Wait for iPad to shut down

> Hold the power button until you see the Apple logo

> Fixed

Right now I haven't been able to find a way to reproduce the problem consistently, but both times it popped up I was most recently using the Paper app. That might be a coincidence since it's my most used app, but it's not outside the range of possibility that a weird app/iOS incompatibility could trigger this.

Wow, that really does make the home button more responsive... and I'm not even experiencing the "home button not working" problem right now.

It works..like I mentioned above your supposed to go into an Ios app like calendar when you doit.but I've had to do it 3 tomes this week so it's not a permanent solution.

Same here. I have both iPad2 and iPad3. I did not upgrade my iPad2 to iOS6 and the home button is working fine. On iPad3, it seems like it happens once every couple weeks. A full power reset makes the home button works again.

I have the same problem on my iPad 3. On iPad 2 home button working great. Trying to calibrate button without permanent success.

I faced this issue on my iPhone 4 after a 6 months of usage.

I resolved this problem by cleaning the contacts on the Home button.

But, to doing this, I disassembled the whole iPhone to reach the Home button.

And I must to say, that is a pretty difficult procedure.

But after that, the home button working just flawless so far.

People, please check is guided access is enabled on your problem devices. By default this feature is mapped on 3 click of home button. I'm disabled this feature and now do not repeat the problem anymore. May be it is a accident, need a double check and test.
