Text from unknown with 10S 6

I just (48hrs) updated my iphone 4 to IOS 6 and since then receive text messages from "unknown" with no content just a "blank bubble" can be seen. When I try to add this to my contact list the phone number is listed as unknown. When I try to respond with a call a number appears 865 66:6 . This in itself is not an issue the fact that the message keeps coming every two hours or so with the ringing and vibrating alert is becoming annoying. Is this a bug...! or a virus...!? Any help in elliminating this issue will be most appreciated. Deleting the message is possible but they keep coming in anyway.

In my attempt to rid myself of this I have gone to SETTINGS and "do not disturb is off". SETTINGS/Message has been taken out of "in notification center".

SETTINGS/IMessage is off SMS/MMS is off... And of course I turned off the vibrate on ring and silent mode. I have switched off and back on, and done a reset, with power and home button. Still the message keeps coming.

Just to add I have a contract with SFR and my phone is non jailbroken.

Is anyone familiar with this issue? Any and all help much appreciated

Thanks everyone.

So....I contacted AT&T and they could not find any incoming texts from any number at the exact times it happened. Kinda like the texts were never sent. I asked a friend and they replied to the message "stop" and strangely I didn't get a message back saying that its was an invalid message to use 10 digit phone number so I thought it ended. But again I received another text and so I was annoyed and replied "stop it b***h" and still haven't received anything yet.

My iphone is not jail broken and has never been. I've noticed that I receive these texts after I recieve a voicemail. Then another after I call my voicemail. I don't know how it is related to voicemail but I've tested this theory and it happens every time I'm left a voicemail or access it. Although I do have to say that I did have a jealous x who did hack into my phone a few times but I don't know how they managed that.

Well It can't be VM, I've already disproved that theroy. With Basic voicemail to notify the ph that it a message waiting indicator it sends a SMS. To the phone and then the ph can then display a new voicemail. For VVM it does not use this I know this three work so it is not related to VM I think that is just a coincidence but if you want u can speak with your provider. But that info is mainly threw att.

I have been on the phone with ATT and Apple for over an hour. They are looking at all my settings, and ATT says it a known issue (Apple did not say that) Anyway, I get an "unknown" bubble message when a voice mail comes in and then two additional when I listen to the voice mail.

An ATT tech is taking all the info and promises to get back to me in 5 days...we'll see

The Apple rep said it was very compelling and thought the engineers would be interested. I volunteered to bring my phone to California for their investigation. We'll see how interested they really are.

Call them back tell them to remove your voicemail all together then add on basic vm. Next tell the agent to go to your voicemail profile and turn off cut threw paging, once it is off have them switch you back to VVM. Once on VVM set it then you'll need to reset up your voicemail again, you will get one more unknown message. And that will be the end of it, they submitted a case for you and that can take 3 to 5 days which they will not call you back bc chances are they didn't submit the right case. Even if they did no one has recognized this as a known issues and they will close the case, with no reaolution. Skip customer care and go to tech only they have the option and knowledge to follow theses steps.

Hi so I've been having almost a similar issue in which unknown numbers have been texting me. I do not have these numbers saved and I believe they are numbers from those text apps. This has been going on for a few months now and it is really starting to bug me. I don't know how much more of this I can take honestly.

I have tried blocking the numbers but every time I block one a new one begins texting me, it is really irritating.

I think Apple should create something in which you can only receive texts from numbers you have saved or at least find a way in which this problem can be eliminated.

Can someone please help?

You must contact your cellular service provider. This is not an Apple issue, that causes this. The reason, that the phone just started doing this: when you power cycle your phone, it clears the system cache files. Your network has text alerts, from your basic Voicemail, where someone used a service, called "Cut-Through Paging". CTP allows a person to leave a text message, with their callback number, instead of a voicemail. Visual Voicemail smartphones can not utilize the feature. Your provider may have to delete your old voicemail box, and then re-add a new basic Voicemail feature, to correct the problem. You will have to pwr cycle the phone, after the chane and setup a new VM box. CTP was designed to be used, with basic and messaging phones, that do not utilize Visual Voicemail.

i started randomly receiving about 5-10 a day as of the last week. today being April 3 2014. i contacted tech support through AT&T chat. copied and pasted above instructions from Bananaboat3514. tech said they did not see CTP turned on. however set my account for basic VM. i even set it up. we then switched back to VVM. all my voicemails came back.

they said they could not delete the VMbox completely. not sure exactly what the means. however i am monitoring, and they will call me tomorrow at noon to see if i have received anymore.

i find it odd that CTP was not turned on, per the tecnician and i get same texts as people on here. either way i will report my findings tomorrow.

This happens to me when someone is sending me a text and it doesn't compute for some reason. It happened to me yesterday from a friend with a windows phone. She asked me about her previous text that I never received, instead getting the unknown one. Throughout our texts yesterday, she ALSO received the same messages and would miss my texts to her. It can't just be an iPhone problem bc it happens to her as well. It happens when a text isn't fully received. So Everytime you get the unknown text, you have missed a text or imessage from someone else.

This happened to me too when I did a hard reset... twice. The first time after I turned on my iphone I got about 52 of those texts saying message not found from 865-66;n. Then the second time I got 24 texts saying the same thing from the same number. The caller I.D. said Unknown. I was able to resolve it when I called it and then immediately hung up, went into recent calls and then just blocked the number all together.
