iPhone 5 screen dims by itself..

This has happened about 6 times since day of release.. while using the phone, in an app, the screen will suddenly go to what I'd guess is the lowest dimming setting.. in the dark I see that the apps are still running, just barely visible. If I can navigate back to the brightness setting, the phone shows it to be at max brightness with auto brightness turned off... the screen stays dim until I move the slider.. as soon as the slider moves the phone lights back up...

I can't force this to happen.. it has been random.. but it has been at least once a day since I received it.

My son say his did this as well.. once..

Anybody else?

I can report that on both of my iPhones that previously had this problem, it did in fact go away when I reset the phone and configured it as 'New'.. it was a pain to recreate and fine tune all my settings, but the problem has vanished..

Now if we could get the data to latch on and stay latched on when on 3G and not constantly keep drifting from 3G to 'o' and back..

Waiting for IOS 6.0.1.. we'll see what Apple does!

i'm having the same issue... happened twice already. out of nowhere it went to the dimmest setting and i tried to go to setting to adjust the brightness but it wouldn't work. it just stayed dimmed. i had to restart the phone in order to get the phone running normal again. this happened after i restored my brand new phone. no back up from previous iOS or upgrade. just simple restore because i thought i was having some battery issue.

i went to the apple store today to get the phone checked with a technician and after he ran the diagnostic it seemed like there were several things (4 total) on my phone that crashed including two that were apps, which caused the sudden dimmness on my screen. so it was pretty much a software issue and not hardware thank god. he restored my phone and said everything should be fine now.

i suggest taking your phone to the apple store and get it checked. make sure you make an appt first because they only go by appts if you want to see a technician.

This dimming issue has happened to me 3 times so far. I have a new IP5 from the original shipment on 9/21 that I activated on 9/22. I have not restored the phone, but I still see the dimming issue. All three times I simply locked it with the "sleep/wake" button, hit the home button, and slid to unlock. That returned the phone to full brightness. A fast work around, but it is still something that needs to be fixed in the next firmware update.

I am having the exact same issue. It's happened to me 4 times in the last month.

It only happens from the lock screen when I've activated Siri, or even just hit the home button to activate the screen.

The screen goes very dim. I managed to get the screen to come back to life by navigating to the brightness settings and moving the brightness slider down to dim and ten back up to full brightness.

Another time I just hit the on/off button and then hit the home button and the screen came back to life.

It's never happened once I've unlocked the phone.

So I can only guess this is an iOS 6 Bug. Well I hope so. It seems too common to not be.

i suggest that you take the phone to the apple store and get it swapped for a new one. i went into the store yesterday and told the guy that it was an ongoing problem and i was getting tired of it so the guy replaced my phone with a new one. the dimness also happened to me 3 times even after my phone was restored (twice). if the dimness is occuring more than twice then it could also be a hardware issue. either the keypad or sensor is having some issues that is causing the dimness.

i didn't want to get a new phone either and mine had a screen protector on there as well. however, if the problem is reoccuring even after a restore then get a new phone. you can always get another screen protector for cheap. i got mines from ebay. they're only 2 dollars for like 6 of them.

the dimness is a software issue but i'm just saying it if happens more than twice (even after restoration) then the problem is also hardware. that's what i was told.
