iPhone 5 screen dims by itself..

This has happened about 6 times since day of release.. while using the phone, in an app, the screen will suddenly go to what I'd guess is the lowest dimming setting.. in the dark I see that the apps are still running, just barely visible. If I can navigate back to the brightness setting, the phone shows it to be at max brightness with auto brightness turned off... the screen stays dim until I move the slider.. as soon as the slider moves the phone lights back up...

I can't force this to happen.. it has been random.. but it has been at least once a day since I received it.

My son say his did this as well.. once..

Anybody else?

I bought the iPhone 5 two weeks ago and i had the similar problem. Brightness going to lowest brightness settings by itself even though i had auto brightness off. I had it 3 times in a week. However i had another problem, when i have auto brightness on and entering from bright room to dark room didn't make any effect on brightness. It only worked when i entered from dark room to bright room. It's suppose to work both ways without locking screen. I went to apple store and replaced my phone and been using for a week now i have not have any problems until now. Auto brightness works perfect while entering dark room or going to bright room. It changes itself without locking screen. I might think this might be hardware defect or could be software.

I recently updated to version 6.0.2 (10A551) on my iphone 5 and before that had not had a problem with the dimming screen. My screen goes dim by itself at least twice a day since that update. Auto dim is off and the brightness setting is 3/4 of the way up. If i had to make an educated guess based on older posts it would be that this a software issue. I finally get an iphone and this happens.😠

My iPhone 4 did this and it drove me nuts... With my warranty I got the 4S and within a few hours it started happening with it too. When I do a hard reset on my device the phone turns back on and the screen is dim right to barely visible. I go to my settings and it has changed the brightness setting to the bottom. I now have the 5 and still having the same issue. It also happens if I accidentally hit my home button twice when the phone is locked. This is a huge pain in the butt and if restoring to factory and starting fresh is the answer I think it could be worth it!
