iPhone 5 Camera Horrible Purple Lines Down Pictures!

Hi, Occasionally when I am taking pictures or videos with the main camera I get loads of streaks of purple/blueish lines and if I take the photo while these lines appear they actually show up on the photo. So I think it must be a hardware problem. I'm in the UK on o2.

Well jai, i hve continuosly following an apple senior advicer for around a month now and according to him and his engineering team this is definitely something to do with mobile network. They are trying their best and continuosly asking mw question about it. But as they said whatever might b the reason u need to have factory cut sim card then only dey can help us in any manner. I ll suggest u to have a factory cut sim .

Jai i am not a software engineer but i would say that its best to get factory cut sim as it vl avoid problems in future also.

And if u r still getting issues dont use camera while on 2G. Thats what my friend does. If u want to contact me further then give ur mobile number to me and i ll whatsapp u about all details i get..

Hi Jai,

My findings....

Both of our iPhone 5 units do this on 2G (GPRS) only, if 3G or WiFi is used our cameras are 100% perfect!

We recently went on a two week holiday to Corfu (from UK), thinking that the holiday photos will be a nightmare to take, but guess what, Corfu had little or no 2G but a brilliant strong 3G signal (Cosmote) and we managed to take 100's of photos and tons of video with not one single glitch on any phone! PERFECT!

There is nothing wrong with our cameras themselves, it is a 2G signal problem effecting the use of the cameras.

Your location and signal type & quality is the important factor here.

Reading earlier posts, I was also hoping that upgrading to iOS7 would fix it once back at home.

Well after testing on iOS7, the issue has been improved here but not completely gone.

So far it seems better not worse so upgrading was a positive move me.

I have only seen the intereference when the camera App is minimised on the multitasking screen (double tap of home button) but not using the actual camera app itself yet, it is early days though!

At the moment my work around for this is to use Airplane Mode when I am in poor signal areas.

This is now even easier to do in iOS7 from Control Centre.

Hi Jai,

I wish I had the real answer, I don't think it is going to change for us.

I think this is a design issue on the iPhone 5, iOS7 may eventually hide it.

Meanwhile Airplane Mode works if you are mostly in 2G areas.

If I drive 1 mile up the road to a 3G area, my problem is also fixed!

It would be interesting to know if the iPhone 5S or 5C also has this 2G issue wouldn't it?

It could be costly to find out that you paid to upgrade to a 5S, only to find it had exactly the same problem.

I would like to think that these newer models are OK???
