Hi, Occasionally when I am taking pictures or videos with the main camera I get loads of streaks of purple/blueish lines and if I take the photo while these lines appear they actually show up on the photo. So I think it must be a hardware problem. I'm in the UK on o2.

It's good you've found a solution. I do not understand how you deduce that it is not a software problem, as you have found a software solution though.
For now, I can live with this issue and waiting for iPhone6.
It is an unfortunate fact that model or OS upgrades work fine, except for those who restore corrupt data from the past during the installation, or have an ongoing hardware problem. There are no magic bullets. I wish you luck.
I Contacted apple India as I got this similar issue and told me that this is bcos of 3g electrical electromagnetic radiation
Brand new iPhone 6s today and have these purple blocks flickering on and off intermittently and all over the camera screen. Happens in all lighting conditions.
