iTunes Match subscription says expired

I just got the iPhone 5 and I have iTunes Match subscription until July of 2013. So plenty of time left and I have it turned on on my phone and when I'm on wifi it seems to work fine but if I'm on cellular data after about 20-30 minutes of using it it says my subscription is expired and everything stop working. I haven't tried to call apple yet but it's extremely frustrating. Anyone know what's going on?

That's a great question mmouse. I AM on AT&T and I know I have had some issues with their LTE network. I wonder if possibly this is also a tower hand off issue. I have been testing since upgrading to 6.0.1, but I have not been mobile. I have been testing it from my home office, so therefore I'm probably not jumping from cell tower to cell tower. Don't know if that has anything to do with it. When I first started having the issues it almost always started when I was listening in the car.

I am on AT&T, but I'm on the capped shared data plan, not the unlimited one. But, this problem does usually pop up in the car. I had one time, though, that it happened right when I started the car, before I started moving, so I'm not sure about the tower handoff.

This is good, though! Let's see if we can figure out some commonalities!

I'll jump in here I guess. Mine just started saying expired about 30 min ago. iTunes says auto-renew is turned on, and is set to renew on Nov 18 2012. I can download songs from my work computer to my home computer through Match with no issues. Trying to do the same (or just stream) to my phone or iPad 3 is a no go. Both pop up saying expired. I am now at home and on Wifi and both STILL say expired. Both of my iOS devices are on AT&T; my phone is on unlimited but my iPad is on a 5gb mobile hotspot plan.

I have a call back scheduled from AppleCare this afternoon. I've had this problem for a few days, starting earlier this week. I can confirm through my own testing that this does only seem to happen when I'm on a cellular connection, and not when I'm on a wifi network. A couple of days ago, I moved from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5. My initial thought was that some spurious setting moved over from the iPhone 4S that was causing this, or maybe it was a problem with my iTunes Match account. My iPad (wifi only) works perfectly, and my Mac mini that is also setup with iTunes Match works perfectly too. My MacBook Pro, which is the master system also has no problems. This looks to me more like a glitch with iTunes Match on iOS. I don't think that AT&T could be the root cause since their network isn't being taxed that much, and I'm nowhere near the 4GB limit of my plan. I don't think that this has anything to do with people who are on grandfathered unlmited plans.

I will post what I find out from AppleCare here after the call. Maybe a restore will fix the problem, but I'm doubtful. This seems more like an iTunes Match glitch than with my iPhone. All other data services work perfectly. Only iTunes Match is acting up.

Exact same problem here. Interestingly, issue originally popped up when I updated to iOS 6 on 4S. Did a restart of the phone and Match came back. Then upgraded to iPhone 5, no problems initially and was using Match on both cellular and WiFi. Updated to iOS 6.0.1 on Thursday night, and the "subscription expired"/"not subscribed to iTunes Match" problem came back, and restarting the phone no longer works.

Spoke with AppleCare for over half an hour, and the tech said they have NOTHING in their knowledge base about this issue. Tried resetting network, signing out and back in to iTunes and iCloud, and nothing. (All this was while on cell data.) Once back on wifi, Match works fine, so as everyone has said, clearly a cell data issue. (Also on AT&T btw.)

Going to try to nuke the phone and start from scratch and see if that helps. My problems came when i updated from one version of iOS to another... maybe the handling of the library file is buggy?

@Bruincanuck.... I resolved the issue of "subscription expired" by upgrading to iOS6.0.1, but, that upgrade occured during a full restore of the phone to unlock it (I bought it outright from AT&T). Nor more "subscription expired".

But Match is not just having problems with the subscription expired error. There are many reports of songs that are either incomplete or "mixed" with other songs, sometimes stopping in the midst of playing them. That's now my problem.

I spoke with AppleCare last night myself, for over an hour, and they also used the "we haven't heard anything about this" excuse. I pushed a little bit and the tier1 tech put me on hold and told me it was an "emerging issue" with them. LOL... They are the only folks not to know about it.

I recommended that they do a little trolling on the Apple support forums for the issue. When he did he came back and apologized saying it seemed it was a real issue. Surprise!

They pushed me up to Tier2 support and the tech wrote it up to send to engineering as a problem. I again told him he should do some searches in the forums to see that it seems to occur across all iOS6 devices at random.

The only thing I've been able to do is to download them to my Mac from the cloud, then sync them to my phone. Not happy with that as it takes up space on my Mac but that's the current price of having usable tracks on my phone.

@jtiptonca - Yea, i did my 6.0.1 upgrade OTA. Didn't have any of the "mash-up" issues you mentioned before - at least not when i had Match working earlier this week.

Thanks for the tip. Going to try the full iTunes restore/upgrade tonight and hopefully that will fix my subscription issue. can't help but think that if your "subscription" error was resolved with a full restore update that the issue occurs with how the iTunes Match coding is handled with a patchwork upgrade OTA. Kind of glad that I went with the 32gb as opposed to the 16gb now since i now have to store the music on the phone. Agreed about taking space up on the Mac also.

As for your experience with AppleCare, I have never understood how their techs don't know of these issues when the forums are on THEIR OWN DOMAIN! *sigh*

I had similar experience last year when they updated iTunes and it started causing connectivity problems with AppleTV... issues all over the boards, and apparenty my call was the "first time we have heard of it." Makes me wonder why I bothered with paying for AppleCare.

Siri, Maps, iOS6 issues... Apple hardware seems to be maintaining, but their software has been seriously buggy lately. Hopefully Forstall being gone from iOS team will tighten the ship up.

Mine is expiring (auto-renewing) on the Nov 18th. You might be on to something there.

Restoring didn't work for me, and even being on wifi is a no-go for both my iPad3 and iPhone5. I just opened up my laptop at work and its seems to be a bit persnickity. Says it has encountered an error, and won't let me hit the Start button. But it isn't saying that its expired. 3 different devices are all acting up. I really don't think this is an AT&T issue..
