iPhone 5 can't send SMS - gets an error when sending SMS

People - I'm using a Sprint iPhone 5 with my local GSM chip. Everything works fine, except sending SMS.

All basic troubleshooting has been done: checked SMS settings, erased Network Settings, checked SMS Service # through *#5005*7672# and it is fine, restored the phone and re-checked everything above again... and nothing. :-(

Please help?

Hi all,

I sent an email to support@apple.com again aminute ago, and I will continue to send every day.

Meanwhile, I've downloaded 2 free applications for SMS.

1. Text2me - nice app, but you get a differnet number, so you should inform your contacts that you have

a different number for SMS only.

2. Hi-text - It keeps your number , it sends the SMS, and everything seems to be working.

I really don't know how it works!!! Does anyone know ???

Hi prasadr, did you purchase a sprint phone without a contract for a full retail price at the apple store and have on the reciept, "no wireless service activation during iphone sale"?

I would recommend that every person who post into this thread should write what phone he has, how, where and when it was purchase, and what the decription in the reciept says.

Like so, we can all understand a little bit more what causing this nightmare for all of us.

I will start:

Purchased at the 5th avanue apple store in new york october 22th.

IPHONE 5 WHITE 32GB SPRINT

Part Number:MD661LL/A

Serial Number:

MEID Number:

Return Date: Oct. 22, 2012

$749.00

Sprint Account Information

To Max and Prasadr,

The last time you were told to do a factory restore that fixed the SMS issue, did you finally get a "Congratulations, your phone has been unlocked" message? I know for most people (including me) when Sprint confirmed that the phone has been unlocked (still with the SMS issue), doing a factory restore did not generate that congratulations message.

Omer,

I dont have the store informaton with me at the moment as somebody else had purchased it for me.

The box has No wireless activation message printed and it is a 16GB white iPhone 5.

Brugak

To be honest i dont really remember seeing that message, but maybe i might have missed it 🙂

I`ll take Max`s word for what he says to be true.

Europe & Asia share a common service center in Ireland ( A guess based on a signature) and i expect all of the pending issues to be resolved in the following week.

I have subscribed to this post, so will be reading in, please let me know if anybody needs any further information.

Once again, i had posted yesterday that Apple CARES, wasnt disappointed 🙂

Request you guys to wait it out a bit and give Apple the time to fix this for the pending cases.

Well, I'm in contact with the Apple support also, but I'm trying to use the "normal way", from "bottom to top", but I have mentioned the cases of you guys that iPhones are working fine now.

But, if they didn't gave me a fix to the problem, I will use the same way you have used, from "top to bottom" (sending e-mail to president, managers,...). I hope to have this fixed till the end of the day.

Keep posted!

Hello,

Here are only the steps, send it to support@apple.com at least:

So what I did, and what I suggest you do too:

- send an email to the above recipients explaining the problem, that you bought an iPhone for the full price of 649$ + taxes (for the 16GB model), and that you specifically asked for it to be used in another country with another carrier;

- write that after you got in your home country you have the SMS problem;

- thus no iMessange and no FaceTime (I think this is the catch, as these are their most mediate features);

- provide them all the details about the phone: Model, Serial Number, IMEI, MEID, your phone number (at which you can be contacted);

- tell them that the email address with which the iPhone is associated in iTunes;

- try to send the email from the email address with which the iPhone is associated;

- if you can attach also a photo of the receipt, that would be great (I did that), the receipt has the Model and the

Serial number of the phone, so you are very credibile in this;

- if you can provide also the name of the store where it was bought (it's written on the receipt).

After the mail with the above details I got contacted the second day and the third day the problem was solved 😉
