iPhone 5 can't send SMS - gets an error when sending SMS

People - I'm using a Sprint iPhone 5 with my local GSM chip. Everything works fine, except sending SMS.

All basic troubleshooting has been done: checked SMS settings, erased Network Settings, checked SMS Service # through *#5005*7672# and it is fine, restored the phone and re-checked everything above again... and nothing. :-(

Please help?

iPhone 5, iOS 6, Sprint model (A1429), GSM Network

hey Max, i do apologise on behalf that person and thank you on behalf of the entire forum for your inputs...

hterrones

the way i see it, i believe its every man/woman for him or herself, as from the experience, it has to be upto each individual to take this forward OR wait for an update, if and when it comes and even if it does, will it cater to our concern????

my suggestion is to take this up case to case individually and gather all the information (like what max had to share) and fight your case individually....

I totally agree with you, it is not fair that only peoplpe who knows about blogs and web sites have access to this information, what Apple should do right know is to prepare a plan to correct this mistake for all cases, get a list of all the Sprint Iphone 5 unlocked to be used outside USA and update their database of unlocked devices with this information, that

It's the least we expect a big brand like Apple do in this situation.

U guys are totally missing the point, this is a forum, which means apple may or may not be reading, there is a reason why there is a customer care and if you guys choose not to write to them and expect them to read such blogs or forums it clearly ain't happening,as if it had, then they work have contacted us by now.

The only reason they may contact is is if we use the right channel to contact them, so yes I do believe apple cares coz if they didn't then they wouldn't have any reason to contact me.

So while we are here on this forum to address our concerns and exchange views, it is still up to each individual to have their concerns addressed or solved, just writing on this forum ain't gonna solve your problem.

So my conclusion, I respect your concern that apple should address this concern globally, and I will be overjoyed when it does happen, but unlike some of you who are ready to wait for this issue to be solved globally, there are still some of us who would like this to be sorted ASAP so it means solving it case by case individually, m sure many Of us are happy to write in individually n have our issues sorted out.

The day my concern is solved I will be overjoyed and for me that's where the story ends and am sure it applies to all.

You guys continue fighting this for the world, all the best!

Hi Avi India,

I think you didn't understand what I wrote so I will try to explain it again:

1. I wrote Apple support 3 times (the last about an hour ago), but still no answer.

I will continue to write until someone will answer, or the problem will be solved.

The email: support@apple.com

2. Since this problem is world wide, Apple shouldn't wait for each customer's complaint.

They know the IMEI of all sprint IPhone5s, and they could do it for all of us in one click!

The only problem is that they haven't decide to do it yet. I really don't know why...

3. There ara many customers facing this problem, but not all of them read our posts,

since they don't know how to search the web and look for solutions as we do.

if Apple doesn't solve this for them as well, these customers will never have the ability to send SMS .

4. We payed a lot of money for this Iphone 5. As hterronessayed, we expect a brand like Apple

to solve it quickly.

Max, thanks for providing your case number. I too have a Sprint version of the phone here in UAE and cannot send SMS. I have filled in the feedback form and sent an email to support@apple.com. Hopefully they will resolve this for me as well.

Thanks everyone for posting here and helping me figure out it is a phone issue and not the carrier. I will post any updates from apple.

Hi guys!

I also suffer from the same problem, on october 22th, i enterd the 5th Avenue store in NY, asked for a no contract iphone 5 and confimed 10x times with the genius prior handing my credit card that i would like to use the phone with a generic sim card outside the US, he said sure just the price would be a retail price. i paid $749 + TAX and exit the store with a big smile on my face.

after leaving the US i realized that the phone is blocking me from sending text, from activating imessage and face time.

i called apple spent over 10 hours on the phone with over 20 apple employees, including senior advisors and technical support, some of them said i need to call sprint cause it's a sprint phone and only sprint can help, but sprint says that they cant help me cause im not a sprint member and i dont have an account nor a phone number in there system.

i have made all the known restores from DFU and from the phone itself, from itunes and from the clould.

nothing has made any change, the phone is still blocking my sms (texting messages)

I think i will not contact apple anymore cause im very tired already.

NO one on apple or sprint end seems to know what is the problem and they keep bouncing me like a pingpong ball from one another.

i have recoreded a senior apple advior from the 5th saying that my phone is unlocked and should be 100% fully functional, which is not.

in 2 weeks from now im going for a 5 days vaction to barcelona spain, i have no idea if they can assist me at the apple store over there, and im affried to take the phone with me for nothing.

i keep checking this post every few hours and hoping for all of us out there to end this nightmare ASAP.

best regards from israel.

Omer.

Guys

I have some good news.

I have posted earlier in this forum, had the same problem, with the SMSes failing in less than a second, facetime and imessages acting up.

Logged a case and a Apple rep contacted me stating that a technical analyst has fixed the issue.

As Max stated earlier in this forum, even i was asked to take the iPhone back to a factory restore.

Did that and voila, everythings working for me. ( Tested SMSes, iMessages directly took the numbers and decided it was a iMessage instead of manually adding a apple id to a users contact, Facetime testing is pending @ the moment, let me know if any of you are available )

I understand the gentleman i spoke to was from Ireland.

I will call him later this evening and ask him WHAT the technical analyst fixed so that the rest of the pending cases can be closed as well.

The good thing is, we know that this problem HAS a solution, the bad thing: the wait.

I had logged a couple of cases, not sure which case did apple work over, let me go through the ticket history and update this forum.

Avinash,

I lost your number, please call ASAP :- )
