iPhone 5 can't send SMS - gets an error when sending SMS

People - I'm using a Sprint iPhone 5 with my local GSM chip. Everything works fine, except sending SMS.

All basic troubleshooting has been done: checked SMS settings, erased Network Settings, checked SMS Service # through *#5005*7672# and it is fine, restored the phone and re-checked everything above again... and nothing. :-(

Please help?

iPhone 5, iOS 6, Sprint model (A1429), GSM Network

My take on that is, that apple is not involved in unlock process. That is why all those hundreds of people, who were coming, purchased phone in states and it was locked( i don't mean you guys, I mean all those years), only get it unlocked, by calling carrier. And that is

if carrier agrees. That is why you hope that low level people at apple will not help you, cause they can't, but higher will. First- Singapore apple is not higher people. Second- higher people, even if they had tools to unlock,

standing to lose more in court fees from the carrier. (Billions as it is). So michael, I know I am applish and all

those other things, and I know to be a " bad person". But if I were you, I would not wait and arrange for the return.

You probably still inside of your 30 days window. Hey and please keep calling me names, Roma. By the way what does that mean "stationed in Brazil". Where do you live then. Make it clear for people that you returned phone. Make it clear that it wasn't you, but someone else.

fromsouth,

What I think we all are trying to say here is that it seems to be a software bug, from apple or from the carrier it doesn't matter, but as long as phone is functioning with every feature except sending SMS (I can even receive SMS, but not send SMS), then we are really thinking that it's a software bug, and it has to be solved.

Being a software bug, we are inclined to say that this is an apple issue and not some carrier issue.

So I really hope this will be handled in some iOS 6 update, otherwise we are kind of stuck with not working SMS and in case this is not going to be solved by Apple or Sprint I'm forced to be on the side of the ones who "brake dance" with iPhone (hopefully you'll get my idea here).

Regards.

fromsouth, I really doubt you try to help in this discussion as you give wrong information and speak like there was no mistake from Apple USA but just stupid people who understand nothing and take the line 5h ready to spend 700$ for something doesn't work.

First, and this is the point this problem happens because of Apple store USA not because of people buying their phones

Second, I don't care about locked or unlocked process, but you should revised your Apple knowledge, Apple is involved in the process as Sprint sends unlock request to Apple and Apple confirms to Sprint when it's done ... But in our case it's already "unlocked" ... I know , I know it's impossible like AT&T one ...

Third, I don't care about high level people or low level people in Apple but as you should know ( but may be it's too far for you to imagine ) Apple Singapore might be a big Apple Hub for this part of the world and I believe "high level" enought to report the problem "high"X2 Apple.

For me there are 2 options :

Like Roman I hope it can be fixed with a software update or something from restoring the phone on iTunes

In case this can not be fixed Apple must propose something to fix the massive unfair mistake like arrange to return the device with the nearest Apple shop or something else.

I don't try to convince you but just wanted to inform others

Michael,

I think your taking this to the wrong directions!!

1. This is not wrong information ( this is a workaround ) , e.g. in my country most of the people have unlimited call , SMS/MMS contract, so this is valid temp workaround, not solution.

2. I'm trying to help my friend who just came back from US with iPhone5.

3. As working for software company ( not apple ) , you will know that ANY new product has Bug's !!! All Iphones version ( ... 3s , 4 etc ..... ) had bug's !!

4. This is always true for new products ( including Microsoft ) , still a fix should be deliver, but this is the "FIGHT"

between Sales/Pre-Sales and DEV/SUPPORT team, as when to release the new product to the market.

5. Don't take this personaly and health is more important , as I think u r very un satisfied....

We're all waiting for APPLE with a permanent solution ...

One thing maybe you can help, why there is a private "new discussion " branched to this one as I can see the link on the top of the post, is there something special we shouldn't know or what ? And why when someone posts the email of

Mr Cook it's deleted by the host ?.. This information is found easily on internet as a public one ... I thought Apple was "cool" enough to promote "straight democracy" with customers !

But what if stupid, applish me says it is not software bug (to my stupid opinion). Diesel, at the beginning of that thread says same, and (pardon me) out of all people on that thread, his info is making sense. Not to you, I know. As far as software bug, you brought up a good and valid point. Imagine that you purchased verizon phone and right now it appears to be unlocked. Imagine that two months from now, Verizon wins that fight with FCC and changes your -we are going to call that "profile" of your phone. Imagine that you update your phone in itunes, or restore it, cause you have some kind of problems. Not only it will get locked, there is nothing, that apple will change about it. Now, may be you are right and may be, I am. I do not pretend to be smarter then you, or anyone. But if I am right - why risk it? What if Att does that "profile" lock? As far as I know, they did that (or something similar) last January. Legally, they can do that anytime. The phone is officially locked to them. Once again, you are the guys, who paid for the phones, you are taking the risk and making desisions. Imagine that someone will come here and tell you that apple WILL fix that problem. There is no way, guys that would have that info talking here. You will only know that happens, after it happens, your return window runs out. Canada sells unlocked phones right off there website at the same price - so is UK. Once again, Good luck to all!
