I am a bit confused about this forum hosted by apple, is this forum to track problems and update community about solution, action or is just a discussion board ?

Reason been the battery drain problem is plaguing numerous people across the world and yet not a single acknowledgement or guidance from apple team on this issue, are we all just wasting our time putting our concerns , issues here ?

Being a scientist, I did an interesting experiment with my iPhone 5, which has super fast draining battery life like those described above. I charted my battery life over the course of a day of regular use. In 5.5 hrs it went from 100% to 32%. Most of the time, this phone was on a wi-fi network. I then repeated this experiment the next day, but put my phone on airplane mode to eliminate any background network thingies going on. Since I was in airplane mode, I rarely used my phone except to note the battery life and time of day. In this case, my battery life was still rather poor: from 100% to 40% in 6.4 hours of pretty much complete idle. See the chart below. Now, I noticed that my phone is having issues charging-when I put it on the charger overnight (for about 7 hours), it was only at 70% this morning. I am hoping that maybe the charger was loose, so will double check it again tonight.User uploaded file

This is my latest position after 11 days. Initially, it drained quite badly but since this is my first smart phone I am not sure what’s bad. Generally, with 3G and WIFI on I lose about 1% battery on standby every hour. With 12 hours of use. Estimated about 4 hours of usage. (From 7 a.m. till 7 p.m) I can get around 40% battery left. Unlike my Vivaz pro, Iphone 5 battery drainage and percentage seemed to be constant. Meaning, their 40% is true 40% and will last the same time as the first 40% when fully charged.

Now, I have disabled the 3G and WIFI. ICloud and location OFF. WhatsUp ON. Data ON. The battery is holding despite sending and receiving emails twice (manually). See the time difference between the first and last picture.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but here goes.

- Got an iPhone 5 last November. Always used Wi-Fi via Aiport router at home (Mobile Data off) - never used internet when out. iCloud set to sync everything except Photo Stream, and Documents & Data. No problems with battery.

- Shortly afterwards, moved house. No broadband at new house for 10 days, so used 3G connection. Still no problems with battery.

- Broadband installed at new house, so re-connected to Airport router. 3G connection still on, but the phone was smart enough to pick up the Wi-Fi in preference. Still no problems with battery.

- Husband changed name of router (to try & cure another problem) but I forgot to re-set my Wi-Fi connection. Battery kept going from 100% to 0 in four hours. Very inconvenient, to say the least, especially when you're out.

- Installed sys manager & noticed I no longer had Wi-Fi connection (moving house makes you distracted!). Re-established the connection, and to be extra sure, disabled Mobile Data. Battery now back to normal.

Ladies and Gentlemen. The problem is firmware related according to the Genious I spoke to this afternoon, he DFU my phone whilst at the store. He did not recommend backing up the firmware but did not say it would cause my phone to explode either. I was suffering from the same ailments you all were suffering from. No amount of fiddling with settings will fix your machine. The firmware diagnostic that he showed me indicated that I had charged my phone over 15000 times since the begining of December, which I obviously have not done. Needless to say the Genious mentioned that if my brand new iPhone 5 continued to lose 10% of its charge an hour they would replace it. It is still losing its charge at a ridiculous rate and this phone is going back asap.

The moral of the story is that the last update messed up some phones on a level that cannot be repaired by you or even a Genious. Take screen shots of the battery decrease and stay calm. You have to get off this forum and discuss this with someone from Apple and be aware, not all phones were affected by the last update! The Genious was very clear that this bork was not my fault and was careful not to admit fault on his corporations side either. They will DFU your phone and can tell if you have as well so if you want do it ahead of time before contacting them in person or whatever, just have all your information handy. I am always blown away at the way Apple has treated me as a customer and how they really do follow through.

Today I left the WIFI ON + 3G ON with Data ON and Whatsapp is always ON.. WIFI signal was very weak as you can see from my second image that I lost WIFI momentarily. Despite, one short call. A quick Shazam login for song ID and email sending with attachments, I managed a decent battery life.

I am probably on my forth or fifth recharge cycle. I did reset the phone twice to rectify the contacts but the battery didnt change until started playing with the WIFI and data.

Here are the latest situation.

I had the exact same issue one day - when I woke up and unplugged my phone, it was on 70%. But I can assure you it was not a loose charger..

I can't find what is draining my battery. It drains even in idle. I use a iPhone 3GS and an iPhone 4 also and they are both lasting over a day. Sometimes 2 days.

Setting Mail to Fetch has improved the battery life somewhat. But just a bit.

I have had the phone on for 2hrs 44 mins (with 32 mins usage) Battery is down to 71%.

I bought my iPhone 5 on November 16. Battery life was terrible from moment I started using it. With no use, and trying many, if not all, of the fixes suggested in previous replies, the battery would be at zero in 11 hours time. Certainly not acceptable for my business. Finally made it into an Apple store (we live 100 miles from the nearest one), and they replaced the phone immediately. I'm an Apple believer again! Two days into the first full charge and I'm still at 50% battery life and using the phone however I desire. iCloud is on, wireless is on, bluetooth, etc.....Head to your nearest Apple store and get a replacement, even if you've already done so. I'm believing now the problem was early production runs. So glad the problem is resolved.
