Is there dust inside camera lens of iPhone 5?

I bought my new iPhone 5 on 28th of September from a local Telco.

Today I noticed inside the camera lens there is dust.

I'm very disappointed 😊

I think it's all your hair and dust. All my iPhones have come to me clean and only get dust under the lens after removing the clear plastic cover on the back of the phone. I believe the culprit to be the mic port next to the lens. I now have a very expensive phone with scotch tape covering the mic port and a clear plastic 3rd party cover over that. I also use a LifeProof case. In the few weeks since I started using my latest replacement iPhone, I still have a clean lens. It's a lot of work to keep it that way, but it does indicate a huge oversight on Apple's part.

I had an appointement at the Genius bar 2 days ago. I bought my phone from my cellphone carrier (Telus).

Showed the phone to the guy and he said will be replaced no problem. Comes with a box, but not the same box as new iphones come in. So I ask is this a brand new iphone ? Guy says no, refurb, but only part that's not new is the motherboard. Case, battery, buttons, ... Everything new but the motherboard.

Warranty isn't extended, just transfered from one phone to the next.

The camera lens is ok, no dust or anything, so I ask the guy if I can put a piece of tape or something over the mic hole so this doesn't happen anymore, he says no, because the sound quality during a call in a noisy environnement will not be good. So I tell him some people have changed their phone 5 times because of dust and I don't want to be coming back to the apple store everytime there is dust in the camera. Says can't do anything more, they will just replace the phone if it happens again.

So Apple, 0/10 for camera lens gasket, 10/10 for customer service and logic behind future replacement of phone, 2/10...

I love (loved) taking pictures with my iPhone 5 until this happened to me as well...User uploaded file

I wish that was just a big bird in the picture but that "bird" is in every picture I take =(

I never had an issue with internal debris on the camer on my old iPhone 4. In my opinion this is a serious problem that is a demerit against the 5 and extremely dissapointing.

I'm in the middle of this process at the moment so I'll let you know how it works out.

I had dust on my lens. I called Apple Support (well, technically I went through the support website and got them to call me).

They gave me an option where they'd ship me a new iPhone, and when I was ready they'd collect mine for repair/replacement.

So far, they have replaced mine. They are going to collect the one with the dust in the lens today or tomorrow. And I'll know in a couple of days whether they'll repair or replace the phone.

I'll keep you posted.

Bottom line, Apple will fix it with either a repair or replacement.
