AT@T data overage after IOS 6 update.

My iphone 4s is using data and no apps are running and I have all services shut down. I have AT&T. I called the and they offered no solution but did refund $55.00 of my bill. Is anyone else having this problem on AT&T? I saw that Verizon customers got hit with data overages and Apple wrote a quick software fix but nothing for AT&T.

I check my usage rate by downloading a data monitor and in 20 minutes of my phone doing nothing it had used 70 KB's of data. This is very dtarnge because after 2 years I have never exceeded my data limit.

I recently up graded to ios 6, after having problems w mountain lion I waited until I thought I was safe. What a mistake. In 2 days I have used 1000 KB fortunately have an unlimited plan but AT&T is wasting significant band width and I don't want my speed throttled back. Apple apparently released a fix for the Verizon problem but why not our AT&T problem??????

Wow, I am apparently up to over 3 gigs, with seven days left in my billing cycle, and almost all of that time I am on wi-fi. I suspected I was being throttled when even getting my mail was taking five minutes when on cellular. Even before I found this thread, I suspected it was the podcast app, since it is really wonky, downloading dozens of podcasts despite me specifying only the most recent five, or even when I mark everything as read. I hated that podcast app when they introduced it in iOS 5, and deleted it within a few days. Now, I don't have an alternative (integrated) option. At least none I particularly like.

I think this is a much more annoying bug than any flaws in the maps app. Especially since it is clearly known by Apple, but not even acknowleged.

Add me to this list.

Spent some time in Orlando the last few days (a LTE city) and ended up using 6 GB of data in 3 days. Wasn't steaming or downloading either, still have no idea how. Watched my cellular usage (under settings) and it was ticking up 1mb every second, even with every app force closed.

Absolutely nothing in the background, location services off, push off, anything that used data was off. Still ticked 1mb and used 1% of my battery every 2 minutes.

Didn't know AT&T phones had this issue? Ended up having to erase content and settings, basically format the phone, to get it to stop.

I had to very same problem - updgrade (really a downgrade) to IOS6 and Cellular Data usage went OFF the chart - even while sitting 2 feet from my wireless router. Called AT&T - they said they have received LOTS of calls with this issues - rep tried to tell me it was my problem/fault! You have got to be kidding me!!!!

The only solution - Settings - Cellular - Turn Off Cellular Data. What a farce.... Now anytime you travel outside WiFi you have to turn on/off your cellular.

DO NOT UPGRADE to ios6

Not sure how far back you read in the thread, but did you try this:

  1. Stop all apps by double clicking the home button then hitting the red '-' on all the apps at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Do a hard reset -- press and hold the on/off and the home button at the same time until the phone turns off. Then leave it for 10-15 seconds and turn it back on.
  3. Now check to see if you have any cellular data usage.

I have been reading about this issue because my phone since updating has been using upwards of 8GB a month on a phone that in the past 2 years has never used that ammount total. The only thing I see different is that my phone is with a Canadian company- Telus. I called them when it happened the first time and they credited my account and then suggested I take it to a genius I did and they found no problem. So i just assumed it was a fluke Come yesterday I found out that I was now over by 4GB. I called again and was told I must be using all that data because Telus would never make a mistake like that, I told the rep that it was not possible because I have not changed my habits and in 2 years have never came close tot hat amount TOTAL. I then told him that the days that were showing spikes in usage the phone as infact off and he said I must be lying because that wouldn't be possible. Long story short I spent an hour trying to explain to this rep that this has to be a mistake. Apple and the carrieres need to start talking about this and issuing refunds and a fix ASAP. I am seriously considereing making my next phone something other than an iphone because it seems with every update there is a mountain of issues

Last night when i checked my usage it was 43mb. Streamed the debate on the CNN app at home on what i thought was my wifi network and this morning my data is at 206mb. When i closed the app after the debate i noticed i was not connected to wifi and had to manually connect, the phone didn't connect automatically after the app was forced close. Called AT&T this morning and they acted like they have never heard of this before and did a courtesy credit like doing me a favor, also told me to turn off cellular data, told them to not bill me a data plan then. What a mess, they have a major problem.

I had used around 500-800 MB of data for the past year. The last two months I had 5 GB of data used each month!

AT&T refunded my overage charges for both months, and the lady did say that they were having other complaints. Despite my iPhone 5 being brand new, she got tech support ont he phone, and they suggested restoring the phone to clear out any bugs that might have arised from corupted files.

So, I did just that. Waiting to see how my data usage goes for the next month...
