How to Change autofill email information on iphone

Hi after upgrading my 4s to IOS 6 I used the contact sync feature with Facebook so that I have friends details from Facebook now in my contact list. This also added a Facebook email address to myself. Now when I use safari and use autofill it uses the Facebook email address. I can't seem to change it. When I go into my contacts and edit I'm unable to delete the Facebook email. How can I therefore push my home email address up the pecking order so that autofill uses it?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

WORKAROUND FOUND:

I unlinked my FB address record from my local address book record. Then I edited the FB one and added (Facebook) to my last name in that one. Then in prefs/Safari I set my autofill address card to the non-FB one. After killing the Safari app, the autofill started picking the right e-mail address for me.

This is still just a workaround. There is no good reason that I shouldn't be able to link address records between local and FB for myself and still tell autofill which e-mail address to use.

It is patently silly that Apple coded the autofill to put FB e-mail ahead of home and work email addresses, and in any case they should let me CHOOSE the right address from among those in my record.

Per the workaround, it is annoying that I now show up twice in the address book (local and FB).

Apple is slowly losing the polish, one loose end at a time.

Attention to detail is no longer forefront. :-(

Here what I did since just changing my label didn't work

- go to your settings/facebook and turn off contacts

- go to your made contact and scroll to bottom of page and click share contact

- send an email to yourself with the contact

- open the file it sends to your e-mail and it will open that contact (it will ask if you want to make a new contact, yes you do!!! Lol)

- go back to settings/facebook and turn contacts back on

- go to settings/Safari/autofill/my info

- choose the new contact you just made

This should work. Let me know if there are any problems

Okay. Go to you in your contacts. Unlink yourself from Facebook. Then go to settings, safari, then auto fill. When the list of contacts come up go to your name. You'll see 2 of your name. Click on the one it IS NOT linked to. Exit and then try and use it. Worked for me. You don't have to unlink all your contacts from Facebook, just yourself.

I have had this same problem and found a fix that allows you to

1. Go to "contacts" and find your profile.

2. "Edit" and delink Facebook from your profile.

3. Ensure the email you want autofilled is the top email and labeled "email".

4. Go to "settings"/"safari"/"autofill" and ensure your original profile is selected for autofill, not your Facebook profile.

5. Pull up a website that will autofill email. Double check that your email is autofilled

6. Go to "contacts" and select your original profile and select "edit". If you do the opposite (edit your FB profile and link your original profile to the FB one), I believe autofill will default to your FB profile.

7. Go to "contacts" and relink your FB profile.

8. Repeat step 5. Your original email should still autofill if you linked FB to the original and not vice-versa.

Matt,

This topic is not about a Mac, it is about the iPhone / iPad -- there is no Safari "menu" nor dock, rather there is Settings -> Safari...

Also the question isn't about how to supply auto-fill information, rather the question was about how to prevent the FB address from being the preferred address among many in the "My Info" address record.

The best way to do that is to have two address records for oneself -- one that contains the FB email and one that does not. Choose the non-FB record for self under Settings -> Safari -> Autofill -> My Info. Lastly, make sure never to link the your two "self" address records together or FB may become the preferred e-mail again.

Really, Apple should stop the madness and let one maintain just one record for self (linked with FB), and yet be allowed to pick the preferred e-mail address for autofill from within the single "self" record. It is just ludicrous that Apple assumed that if an FB address exists in the "My Info" record that the FB address should be preferred. Look how many months have gone by and STILL people are having this problem. Apple should just fix it so it can be put to rest.

This is how I corrected the issue on mine.

-Either unlink your two contact profiles or create a new one manually, leaving your FB address off the card with the information you want to use. (Be sure you have some way to distinguish the two from each other in the list by adding a middle initial or something similar)

-Under Settings>Safari>Auto fill, Select the contact card with the information you want to use.

-Go back to contacts and to the card with the information you just selected to use.

-Link your face book card to your primary card. The fact that the face book card(Child) is linked to the main card(Parent) is what makes a difference here.

Hopefully this will help someone.

Thanks to cwsmith1923 and b3miller: auto fill email works for me at last.

I unlinked the two contacts for myself from each other. Went into my main contact and then linked the FB contact to it.

Then I updated my email address label to be "email". This didn't work at first as my work email (labelled "work") was first in the list of 3 emails. I deleted the work email, and then aded it again. This placed it third on the list of emails with my email (labelled "email") first and FB email (also labelled "email" second).

Now Safari picks up my email address and I only have one entry in the address book. Hooray!!

Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I found a solution to this. In contacts, tap your own contact, click edit, scroll to the bottom, the unlink the contact from Facebook. Now go into settings>safari>auto fill and passwords, then change the auto fill contact to another random contact. Then, change it back to your own. This fixed it for me withour losing contact integration.

Redthumb45:

The most important thing is to NOT link your personal record to your FB one.

If it's easier for you, you could temporarily change the name on your personal record and add something to distinguish it like ME. Then choose the ME record for Safari autofill and Siri, then change the name and remove the ME part.

I have linked all my other contacts with their FB contacts, but for my own record I keep them separate, just because of this extremely annoying Apple-ism. How could they think I would want to use my FB info in web forms? Silly.

Anyway, I hope my note was helpful. Good luck!

Hi I like all others was extremely annoyed by this as I use autofill for everything. After reading thought the threads and an hour of playing around I got it to work!

As per some of the instructions I amended my other two email addresses (work and personal) the third was the frustrating Facebook address.

I changed both using the custom function to "Email" then tried autofilling a form, ironically this worked, however, it used my work email!

After more playing around I established that by changing the email address that comes first in your contact to the one you wish to use most autofill will select this each time.

I then went back and changed the description to personal and work respectively and now autofill works a treat with my personal email.

Hope this helps :)
