delete a template from My Templates

How do I delete a template from My Templates? Right Click does not produce a drop down menu and the icon can't be dragged to trash. Finder does not reveal My Templates.

This is something the iWork designers never gave much thought to. Then when Lion came along it became even more difficult. Your custom templates are stored with other, obscure, User Account files.

You first need to access your User Library folder. Open a Finder window, hold down the Option key and click on the Go menu on the Finder menu line. When the menu drops down, continue to hold down the Option key and select "Library". This is your User Library, distinct from the System Library.

In the User Library, navigate to: Application Support, iWork, Pages, Templates, My Templates.

Good luck.

Hi Tim,

Installing Pages 5.x automatically puts your Pages '09 templates in the Pages 5 Template Chooser.

If you are having trouble going to Template Chooser, it may be that you have set Pages > Preferences > General > For New Documents > Use template

User uploaded file

If you have those settings, New from Template Chooser is no longer in your File Menu.

Hold down the option key to see 'New' change to 'New from Template Chooser'.

Right click (or control click) on a custom template (in My Templates) to Rename or Delete.

Regards,

Ian.

Hi, Peter,

Yes, you are quite correct and I'm not having a problem with templates. As Ian says Pages '09 user templates are migrated when 5.5.3 is installed. And most of what one needs to do with them can be done in the chooser. But some people have more complex installations with files they may want to move or back up or whatever, who knows? It is good to know where these things are. Why make it difficult?

Others in the discussion seemed to be having trouble locating their templates and not being able to find them in the Library. I was simply offering guidance in finding them in what is a rather obscure location, especially as they don't reside in a normal folder.

Thanks for the response, 'though.

With Pages v5, you have rename and delete access to your custom templates via the template chooser, and a right-click. No need to go through the Library Containers nonsense.

In Pages '09, you navigate to your local Library â–¸ Application Support â–¸ iWork â–¸ Pages â–¸ Templates folder location. Now drag the My Templates folder left into the Favorites sidebar of an open Finder window. Until you release, it is a thin line that allows you to position this folder alias where you want it. Once in your Finder's Favorites sidebar, you have one button access to your custom, Pages '09 templates.
