AppleTv update causes Itunes and USB connection picture. What the heck does this mean?

Updating last night causes the Itunes image and USB cable to be displayed along with a rapidly flashing power light. All previous updates never caused this. What do I need to do?

Thanks in advance

I also suffered the same issue... Apple; it just works... Until it doesn't.

It's ridiculous that anyone would think this is an issue caused by users. This is an Apple problem that hopefully they'll fix quickly. Luckily the restore is not too painful if you have the right cable. In the future I hope Apple wouldn't use a cable type on the Apple TV that is not completely foreign to the rest of their ecosystem. I feel bad for anyone all-in with Apple that had to go track down a mini-USB cable.

That's rubbish and vazandrew, you should know better. If the download is corrupted, it should be caught by the update script. Also, why is it only this update that had the problem, when all the other updates by other vendors work fine on my network? Estimated on the proliferation of reports here, it seems more likely an issue with Apple's network (if the network really was the problem).

By the way, I went and bought a USB cable for it today and when I plug it in, the computer says overloaded USB device, all USB devices stop working until it is unplugged. So now I have to take it to the service center. Good one Apple. This is a waste of potential. Apple could be capable of providing a really good customer experience, but instead is literally careless to the point of failure. It's not the only time their updates have stuffed a unit.

Same issue here on my Apple TV (2nd Gen). The update downloaded successfully and installed itself; then restarted and approximately half way through the second run it bricked into the USB/iTunes mode. I'm not thrilled about it but, still, it's not cool. Also, I like how others on the forum assume we all have a micro-USB cable lying around...unfortunately, I mostly have only Apple phones and products NONE of which use this type of connector nor does my self-built PC or any other device I own (and I consider myself fairly gadget-obsessed). And yes, Best Buy is a five minute drive (or 20 minute bus ride) away and the cable only costs $5...but I'm just thinking how wasteful it is of my time and money to have to resolve this issue.

Add us to the list of people experiencing this problem. We bought the cable to try and repair this ourselves as well as calling apple care ... twice. We live over 2 hours from an apple store. No matter which way you slice it, this leaves us out of luck.

Apple care told us this is a wide spread problem being caused by the update. Clearly not user error. Of interest they only told us this on our second call, after we invested the time and money to try and fix it ouselves.

We've only owned this apple tv for a few months.

We've been a family of die hard apple fans and are starting to lose faith. Apple doesn't seem to have the same commitement to quality products and superior customer care it once had. 😟

Perhaps it's time to go back to cable.

Ours is doing this too. Ran the update and when it rebooted, I get the iTunes and USB graphic. My main beef is why, why, why did Apple use a MICRO USB?? I have some normal USB and mini USB cables but no Micro. Lightning cable would be best but they havn't upgraded the AppleTV since the lightning connector has been out. :-/

Our closest Apple Store is 2 hours away and I really don't want to go out on a Sunday to buy a Micro USB that I'll only use once (uless this happens more often)! Even going out to the Best Buy will be a 1.5 hour excursion this afternoon.

Uggh.
