AppleTv update causes Itunes and USB connection picture. What the heck does this mean?

Updating last night causes the Itunes image and USB cable to be displayed along with a rapidly flashing power light. All previous updates never caused this. What do I need to do?

Thanks in advance

Thanks to all those here who offered advice, I am now back on track w my 2nd GEN Apple TV. Same scenario as stated by most. I didn't get my panties in a wad, though, because I've been through this kind of thing w Apple over the years a time or two. It took me around 1 hour and $14 and change, and I'm back in business. One positive thing to note: when I used the restore app, iTunes not only restored it to factory defaults, but then made sure it had the latest update on firmware and software. You've got to give Apple credit where credit is due on that one…

When I had this problem a year ago -- and solved it (see posts from a year ago) -- I found Apple helpful. The phone techs were pleasant, they understood the problem, they explained options, and they were clear. Because the upgrade was Apple-recommended, I could get free service at the AppleStore. Or I could buy the cable and follow the steps myself. An incovenience? Sure. A big deal? The company's going down the tubes? Really now. No need to overreact. People who compained about Apple phone techs -- it's upsetting they were mistreated. I have always had top-notch service from Apple.

I went out and bought a micro USB and restored the AppleTV. However, we had lost the remote it came with and couldn't control the AppleTV after it rebooted to factory settings. It's was stuck at the language screen and kept repeating a message about VoiceOver... over and over again. Luckily my Father-in-Law (close-by) has a remote so I was able to use his.

Apple should be smart enough to allow the AppleTV to work with Bluetooth or WiFi right off the bat without a need for their aluminum stand-alone remote. AppleTV is not a typical Apple product. Hopefully they'll dedicate more effort in the NEAR future. iPhones and iPads may be generating the cash now, but AppleTV could be one of the stronger legs (financially) if Apple gets it right -- which the should make every effort to do so!

Apple TV is, in fact, compatible with many Bluetooth and WiFi remotes. In fact, my original aluminum remote got soaked and despite buying a new battery, simply doesn't work any more. I subscribe to AT&T's uVerse, and use the remote to control my Apple TV. It was a snap to pair them, and I'm actually happy to have one less remote to switch to when I use my Apple TV. Check your remotes and see if one of them will pair with your Apple TV. Odds are, one of them will, especially if you have a Universal Remote Control... Good luck

No, I don't think your understanding the issue. When the AppleTV has been restored, and you don't have the original aluminum remote, you can't even get to the settings that allow you to pair another remote.

I have the Remote App installed on all our Apple devices but you can't use it to even hit the enter button until the AppleTV has been configured. Apple needs to enable the Remote App so it can be used as a Bluetooth remote for the AppleTV until it's configured to use WiFi.

The instructions are at the bottom of the setup screen after it boots up from a Restore. I don;t remember exactly what it says, but it does say "touch" your device to ATV. I thought the same as you and tried bluetooth right next to it, but it it did not discover.

Someone else reported they placed the device on the ATV and that worked. So not sure on which sensor unless it is in fact the proximity sensor mimicking super close contact to the device? Dunno.
