Associate my phone number back to Messages

I had my primare iCloud account on two computers. I also had my cell phone number associated with the Messages software on those so that I could receive message on my Desktop that were sent to my phone number. In redoing one of those computers I inadvertantly deleted the phone number associate. I am no longer seeing messages on my desktop that are sent to my phone.

How do I fix this? I can't find anyway to add that number back in.

I unclicked and clicked the Enable this account check box on the iMessages at my MacBook Pro and that removed the "awaiting confirmation" message that was showing up there when I added my phone to the list of where I can be reached. Now it shows my number without the "awaiting confirmation message". Then I got two additional messages on my iPhone to confirm that a MacBook Pro was added and that it was using my phone number (don't recall the exact verbiage of the messages at the iPhone). Now I'm just waiting for somebody to iMessage me to see if this works.

Ok. These are the messages that I received at the iPhone when I added my phone number on the MacBook Pro:

Message #1: "Email Addresses Added to My Name MacBook Pro. My name MacBook Pro is now using and for iMessage".

Message #2: "Phone Number Added to My Name MacBook Pro. My Name MacBook Pro is now using for iMessage.

Got my phone number to (finally) work in Messages (Mac) by adding my (updated) Apple ID to my phone in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive. As soon as I added my Apple ID to my existing phone number in Messages on iPhone, my Messages for Mac app automatically updated within minutes and sent me a notification on my phone "XYZ MacBoo Pro is now using (PHONE NUMBER) for Messages"

Hope this helps!!

To make mine work I (kinda) had to do the apple ID delete process on the iPhone. I say kinda because I found that I hadn't actually activated my apple ID in messages on the phone when I got my replacement phone ( the first one had faulty headphone jack). Once I did that I got the notice that my iMac and iPad were now linked. For what is now obvious reasons trying to add the phone number from the iMac ended up failing in the ways mentioned in this thread.

In spite of appearances, I was able to add my iPhone's telephone number directly to iMessage on my Mac:

In the Messages application, open Messages > Preferences ...

Click on "Accounts" on top.

On the iMessage account, which should basically be set up correctly with your Apple ID but not telephone number, click the "Add email" button on the right. Then add your telephone number, country code and all, just as it appears on your iPhone under Settings > Messages.

That does it!

Tried that, nothing happens, the field disappears and no number is added.

HI,

Some find it easier to remove the Apple ID on the iPhone and then wait a few minutes before adding it back.

It appears that adding as if it were and email in Messages itself on the Mac requires it to be in the correct format.

This means including a country code as in the leading +1 for the United States or +44 for the United Kingdom.
