mail hangs waking from sleep

why does mail hang in 10.8.2 - mountain lion - when waking from sleep? Mail hangs for ~5 minutes every time.

I have a MBA late 2010 running 10.8.2, no special system software installed beyond standard.

For the past few weeks every time I wake from sleep mode this happens. Driving me crazy.

I have 2 google mail accounts and 1 exchange account. The accounts don't get huge activity so I don't think it's a sync issue. Plus this wasn't happening with 10.8.0 as far as I can tell.

Anybody know how to fix this? Searched forums for 2 days but find no other reference to this.

Thanks!!

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 2.13 GhZ Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM

All,

I think I've found a fix!!! I turned "Power Nap" off and now Mail and Calendar seem to be OK when the machine wakes up from sleep. I have not done extensive testing but I suspect the problem is with Power Nap and Exchange accounts. Power Nap probably works OK if you only have iCloud email and PIM configured. Not sure about that theory but please try diabling Power Nap and then update this thread with your results. If it solves the problem for several of us then there's sufficient evidence to raise a bug report.

Good Luck,

Peter

Hello all,

I have had the problem discussed in this forum for over a year, but seem to have finally solved it (at least for the last month).

I was having a problem with Safari where websites would load slowly. I had my machine's network connection DNS servers set to Google (8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4), but that didnt seem to help.

Then I changed my router's DNS to Google's as well, instead of my ISPs. That fixed the Safari problem, and as a welcome side effect, my Mail app no longer hangs on wake-from-sleep.

I'd love others to confirm this. The key (for me at least), was that my Router had to be on a different DNS. It was not enough that my machine's network adapter was set to the different DNS.

Let me know if this works for anyone else.
