iPhone 5 headphone volume too low

Has anyone else noticed that the headphone volume output with the iPhone 5 is considerably lower than with previous models?

I've checked the volume limiter and all the usual stuff, but I cannot find a way to make this "normal" again. Even on its loudest setting, it's sometimes not loud enough, especially for spoken word content.

Any ideas on why this is/can it be fixed?

My iPhone 5 has the same problem too. I tried the new earpods on my previous iPhone 4 and the volume was more loud than ever. However the volume levels on iPhone 5 are too low. I didn't use any other headset, but I don't take as solution to buy new headphones to upgrade something that I already had with my previous models.
Apple, if this is a software problem, fix it. If it's some hardware downgrade, inform us to give up hope.

The "Volume Limit" is off. In fact it was off by default. This is my 4th iDevice and I tried all the possible settings and tweaks that I know. After a lot of searching I found several references that the volume on the iPhone 5 is low because of its hardware and not of any software "problem".

"All versions of the iPhone 5 are 18% thinner, 20% lighter, and have 12% less overall volume than its predecessor, iPhone 4S."

This quote is taken from Wikipedia but I found the same information and to many other sites. So folks, I think that it's time to give up hope and realize that our phones are quieter from what we used to hear...

That's a real shame if it is the case. I know it might not be important to others but for me the sound level is of major importance. Will take it into the apple store and see what they have to say. Unfortunately looks like I may end up having to get a different make of phone. If it is a hardware prop then Apple have really missed a trick this time.
