iPhone 5 headphone volume too low

Has anyone else noticed that the headphone volume output with the iPhone 5 is considerably lower than with previous models?

I've checked the volume limiter and all the usual stuff, but I cannot find a way to make this "normal" again. Even on its loudest setting, it's sometimes not loud enough, especially for spoken word content.

Any ideas on why this is/can it be fixed?

Crazy. What did they say?

I've noticed that it is a combination of the iPhone 5 having lower volume along with the new headphones being much quieter. I have started using the headphones from the 4 and the sound is somewhat louder. Plus I have been told that there are new EU restrictions on sound levels that affect the 5. So with the actual lower volume, the new headphones and the new volume restrictions my listening experience is a disaster! Wish apple would sort it out.

I used the apple call back service and he said they werent aware of any issues and that some people in the forums where say the i5 louder...

I also went into a an apple store and as you know theres nothing genius about them infact dimwit came to mind... All he offered was a remanufactured phone. I tested some other i5s and they were the same..

Im not convinced its the EU limiter as this is a "recommended" limit volume which can switched off.. There is definatly new sound signature, i use the sennheiser ie 80s which have a base adjuster, for the i4s its on max, i5 minimum.. My B&Ws sound awful and muddy with i5 but great with i4s.

I was hoping ios 6.1 would bring a fix but sadly not..

The biggest reason for me owning the iphone series was for music quality and given i can no longer enjoy my music its time to look elsewere..

I also have lumia 920, and with the various software improvements it actualy sounsd impresive far better than my I5..

There are MANY other benefits , both nokia and microsoft seem to be trying very hard and are making good progress...

I have to agree with you. Think its time to move away from apple. They have been failing quite a lot recently and I never had a problem before(nothing to this extreme at least). I mean they are not even giving an explanation to this headphone issue..what kind of support is that??

Its not a problem with the new headphones though. Because when I use them on my mac they are fine. The volume is only low on the phone. There is still no definite answer that tells wether its a hardware issue or a software issue.

All I know is that im dissapointed and will not continue to support apple with their behaviour.

if this is the case then i will definaitely be swapping over to android, as much as i hate to say it! The music player was a major reason i bought the iphone after having many ipods. The volume is just too low on the iphone 5 to put up with, and why should we be dictated to by the EU and/or apple how loud we can listen to our music?! Judging by the replies on this thread and the many other problems the phone has had of late, apple have definitely shot themselves in the foot this time.

Im convinced the volume is restricted due to battery issues, its not EU policy.. I know far to many who carry a charging cable around with them and not many who are partuculaly impressed with their i5s certainly battery life.. Clearly apple have isses with the i5...

My lumia 920 last 1.5 days, equivalent use on my i5 sam sim was 4-6 hours..

Hi - I just purchased a I PHONE 5 - Unlocked from Apple and I am having the same problem. When I call someone, I can barely hear the other persons phone ringing or the person speaking. I have tried both with and without the head phones and I find the same problem. The volume is extremely low. I called Apple Support and they advised me to reset the phone, I tried everything that the tech support asekd me to do but the same problem persists. I mentioned to the support technicin that lot of people on this message board seem to having this problem and the technician told me that this is the first time he is hearing of such a problem. Can some on the is board please advise if these has been a fix for this issue. If not I am returning the IPHONE 5. Not worth $700 if the volume is not enough.
