Persistent Subtitles

I have an Apple TV one. When I watch movies the subtitles stay on screen until they are either replaced by new subtitles or I stop playing the movie and restart it. This has only occurred with recent movies such as The Avengers and Madagascar 3. I understand there was a doubling issue with the Avengers, but I haven't seen any subtitle issues mentioned for other movies. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Hi Apple, I have just reviewed the trailer for Armageddon without blemish, then rented the movie, only to experience a grey rectangle in the subtitle location throughout the movie. According to Australian Consumer Law, I should should receive a full refund if the product I purchase fails to match the sample provided.

I hereby claim that full refund and require immediate resolution of this issue for future purchases.

I had the same problem so I guess it's not fixed yet. First on "42". I complained and got a refund but they did not tell me it was a recurring problem that others have had. Then, rented The Hobbit tonight and the same thing happened. I will try the fix of switching subtitles to English and also ask for another refund, but it is ridiculous that Apple can't/won't fix this.

I have been having this same problem for a while now. Just watched Olympus has Fallen and once again the sub-titles stuck continuously, had to stop the movie a dozen times and resume.

What I find strange is that Apple have not officialy withdrawn support for Gen 1 Apple TV and yet we have a clearely defined bug and they are making no attempt to either fix it or provide any feedback on what they plan to do. I understand that they are not bringing new features to Gen 1 but the existing software should be free of known bugs. Clearly this is not the case.

I am also an Apple fan with just about every product they sell in our home, iMac, 3 Mac Book Pros, iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S and 5, iPod Touch, about 5 iPads. At this stage the only option I can see is moving to the new Apple TV, I suspect there may be a new one on its way so will wait until the next round of announcements. Not sure what I loose by moving to the new Apple TV but the Gen 1 has been very good so seems crazy to just dump it now over what appears to be a small bug.

There is no fix from our end. Having posted several times and responding to the refund emails to about every point brought up in this discussion ie: Are you going to fix it? Where are you in fixing it? Why can't you fix it? Is there anybody out there? All I get is the canned response of the information being sent to tech's etc. I find that almost if not more at this point irritating and frustrating. All of these posts, all of these people with Gen 1 Apple TV's have obiovusly been users for along time, yet Apple seems not to care about customer loyality. Nor does it seem to want to solve the problem, it must be cheaper to just refund the money. That being said, you have no idea what you will get when you rent or purchase. The first Star Trek I bought works fine, the latest had subtitles which was a real shame to wait for it's release only to be let down. But whats truly sad is the lack of response to all of these good customers, we were not looking for refunds, we were looking for what we bought to work! Personally I see a smart TV in my future and streaming from Netflix or Amazon and will not be looking at a new Apple TV. I like the one I have, I like the 32GB, I would like to know if Apple ever has looked at these posts?
