My iphone 5 goes "no service".
When my iphone 5 goes out of network, "no service" shows. But the phone doesn't search for network, even if there is, untill I tell the phone to search for network. Why?

And a whole lot of bugs. I've been on "Searching..." for a month now. I really regret updating. Big mistake.
I never did the upgrade as Apple store advised me not too, it's still asking me to upgrade to 6.1.4
This has been happening to me since I received an iPhone 5 on its launch day of 21st September 2012. Some more points worth mentioning:
If the iPhone can be manually prompted to return to service (e.g. using the above four methods), then it could do so automatically if the software was programmed to do so. Therefore this is a software fault, even if it is specific to EE UK and possibly to networks in other countries that support 4G (regardless of whether the customer is provisioned for 4G).
Same here in Austria with Orange. When the iPhone 5 looses it's signal it stays on "No Service" and doesn't find it's network automatically.
Only flight mode ON - OFF works or doing a restart. Already got a new sim card without success.
A sales person at the Orange Store told me that the iPhone 5 is known for that and that it's actually not a problem, it's just because of it's worse reception than the older iPhones like the 4 or 4s have. 😮 !!!???
I cannot always check if there's a signal!
I have a newly bought iPhone 5 with Three network, I live in London so there is very good Three coverage. I'm running ios 6.1.4, my wife has the same phone and ios we both get No service issues although I get it a lot more often (including when her's if fine). This is very irritating have to constantly turn phone off and on. Someone please sort this out!!!!!!!!
Bought two iPhone 5s a few months ago, worked fine until I got the 6.1.4 updates. Now I rarely have service or 3G in my own house, when before the update, I had no problems whatsoever. I am on the 3 network in the UK.
I hope a new software update comes out soon.
My case: I bought two iPhone 5 in London one month ago and now I'm in Brazil. One of them is working fine. The other one was left in a place for some hours without signal and the signal never came back again...although it has internet connection (wi-fi and 3G). I have talked to my carrier (VIVO), AppleCare in Brazil and in the US and no solution. After checking here and there I suspect that the problem lies in the LTE band. Somehow it is not working fine with the latest iOS. I restored my iPhone many times and when I changed idiom and country to English and UK a new option appeared under settings>general>mobile: "ENABLE _RAT_". I have no idea of what this is but it appeared where ENABLE 3G or ENABLE LTE should be (note: LTE is not yet available in Brazil and my city is currently implementing it but not in the same band frequency that is supported by the iPhone model A1429, which in UK is the band 3).
Could one of you guys living in the UK call (or chat) AppleCare, ask for a Senior Advisor and ask him/her to submit a ticket to their engineers explaining this issue? That is the procedure I was asked to take but I'm still in Brazil and AppleCare here has no support for the A1429 model, only for the A1428. (check it on the back of your iPhone 5). Thanks
Just found this: "http://blog.clove.co.uk/2013/01/16/4g-in-the-uk-lte-networks-frequencies-and-auc tions-faq/ It may explain why we lose signal behind walls!
Please consider Brazil on this list too.
Hi Fabio,
I have found this http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/558054 and it worked for me (until now). I don't want to be optimistic because the problem kept coming back after apparently success, but maybe it works for you.
Basically all you have to do is to go to an area where the signal of your carrier used to be strong and keep dialing *##873283#* or *##UPDATE#*. I had to do it a few times before the signal was back.
I'll make sure to come back here and post if the problem is definetely resolved. Hope you do the same, so we can beat all technical supports from carriers and Apple...
Hi iPat11,
I tried settings>General>Reset> "reset all network settings" and it seems to be fine untill now.
I'll try your dialing codes if the signal keeps weak and I'll let you know.
Many thanks.
That worked for me just for a few hours, problem is back... it worked as long as 3G was off, turning it on makes signal go away again. I'm definitely going to ask a new (virgin) chip and a new config of my line. If that doesn't fix the problem, back to London and ask for a replacement.
Beware that resetting network settings will delete data from your phone, particularly all your wifi networks and their associated passwords. This is not something you want to try as a quick fix on the off-chance of it working.
Hi, NFH., I don't know about Fabio but in my case, this was one of the first things asked for me to do by my carrier and from AppleCare support, anyway it didn't work...
Yes, support people often advise doing it without warning of the consequences, i.e. loss of data.
Yes, but that was ok since my iPhone is brand new and no data on it... problem is, it doesn't work as a phone!!!
