My iphone 5 goes "no service".

When my iphone 5 goes out of network, "no service" shows. But the phone doesn't search for network, even if there is, untill I tell the phone to search for network. Why?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

Hi,

I have this exact same problem with my new iPhone 5, on the network '3' in the UK.

I previously had an iPhone, then iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, all on the Vodafone network in the UK and everything worked fine.

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 5 with 3 and transferred my number to the new network.

90% of the time everything works great on my iPhone 5.

HOWEVER

The remaining 10% of the time my phone displays "No service" in the top left, where the network operator and signal strength bars are meant to be.

From time to time, this is normal behaviour due to being out of signal coverage... but you'd expect service to resume when you return to an area which normally does have signal coverage. But this doesn't happen with my iPhone 5, it stays on "No Service" and any attempt to reach my iPhone fails and the call diverts to voicemail.

The solution I'm currently using is to turn the iPhone off, and then on again, at which point service is restored (often showing full 5 bars!).

This indicates a problem with the phone, either in the hardware or the software, and it's really irritating - sometimes the phone will be in my pocket for a couple of hours, and then I take it out and discover that it's showing "No Service", at which point I reboot the phone to fix the issue, and then I find I've got a number of text messages and voicemails waiting for me.

For your information, I am currently running iOS 6.0.1 but it happened on iOS 6.0 as well.

I'm contacting Apple Support and 3 Support to get this logged but would encourage anyone experiencing this problem to do the same - Apple / 3 need to know that this is a real problem that is affecting lots of users!

Hopefully this can be sorted soon.

I went to see a genius and he told me to do a full reset because there were some diagnostics reports of issues in apps before I restored to the iPhone. he said there could be something in the backup from my old phone. So I did as he said and still had the issue aftwards. BUT since upgrading to 6.0.1 this morning I have not had the issue. I will wait to see if I get it, but I am crossing fingers its fixed.

I do feel like I have a problematic iPhone though which is not good.

Same problem here, was on O2 with poor signal but without the No Service problem. Moved to Orange and have been getting the No Service thing almost daily. Easiest way to force reconnection is make a phone call but even then the 3G connection seems not to provide a data connection consistently.

As I used to diagnose phone faults for a living I have tried just about everything including swapping my SIM card with a reliable IPhone 5 (yes most seem OK). Having now reset the phone as new, reloaded my apps manually, and updated to the new iOS, I can say with some certainty that my phone is faulty, it's probably either the receiver, or the SIM card reader. Apple are kindly replacing it so hopefully the new one will not have this problem.

Now I tried a full reset/erase and did not restore from my iCloud copy. Still same problem.

Got an email yesterday telling me that my new phone will arrive in 3-5 work days so I'll be back then and tell how that goes.

I have the same issue. Just bought the iphone 5 white 64gb...not sure if the No Service applies to all the iphones. I have been getting the No Service since I first activated. I am on AT & T in Florida. My husband got the iphone 5 black 16 gb and doesn't have any issues with his cellular service. We will be in the same spot in the house and mine will show No Service and his won't. It infurating! I have less or no service than I have service! I upgraded from the Iphone 3, still with A T & T and never had this issue.

I already contacted A T & T about. Changed out the Sim card on the first phone and it wasn't any better. Took my phone back ot A T & T and they kindly exchanged for a new same model. Seemed okay at the store, of course. Got home and am getting No Service again. I have gone to places that I used to use my phone in and now I have no service. It works, sometimes, going from airplane mode or turning off but this is not right!

I just upgraded the Apple software. Did not help! I believe it to be a hardware issue. Probably on certain ones and where they were manufactured. Possibly a certain part?.

I haven't called Apple yet. I just I know that this is my second sim card, second phone and still the same no service issue. Never had this problem with my old iphone.

What model does everyone have that has the same issue? Could it be the same as me? If so, definitely a hardware issue and Apple needs to get their $hit together and replace for us!

Same for me. I have had a new sim and a replacement iPhone 5 but installing IOS 6.01 did not resolve the No Service issue. However, since doing a soft reset I have not had the No Service problem. I have been in areas where I know there is no network service and my iPhone 5 has shown No Service as expected. However, as soon as I go back into a service area, i get the signal back which wasn't happening before.

I've got theproblem of very laggish (at least 2 minutes) signal recovering after signal lost. Is it the same as others? (Moscow, Megafon operator)

I'm not sure but maybe apple uses 2 types of radiochips, for example, and one of them is buggy with the current firmware? Maybe we should post our hardware ID / serial (which one - don't know) and it could help to identify problem's dependency...

My iphone 5 goes "no service".
