iphone 5 camera spots

Has anybody else had spots on their camera shots? (See images below) It appears as if there are specs of dust on the lens yet it is completely clean. Looks like a trip to the Apple store is in my future.

The "Genius" said it was new but it wasn't in a new iPhone box. It was in a small brown cardboard box. When he removed it he had to place the SIM card from my defective phone into it. I had it replace so early on after release of iPhone 5 that I doubt they had a chance to have referbished on hand. It looks like they had a supply of these "brown box" iPhones for just this reason. So it's a new phone just not in retail packaging. I have heard differing reports about whether apple uses referbished or not.

I had the same problem. Slingle gray spot in my rear camera. I first noticed it a few months ago back in May, but it wasn't irritating me too much. But, since I had a launch day iPhone 5, my warranty is expriring in a little over a month, so I thought I'd take it into the Genius Bar. The guy looked at it for a few seconds and went and grabbed a white box refurb from behind the counter without a word. At least I'm assuming it was a refurb. It wasn't a standard iPhone box...just this thin white box. I was out the door in 12 minutes.

Today I had my iPhone 5 changed for the second time, I bought it 4 months ago and after a week I discover was something shaking inside, went to the shop and got it change immediately with the one in the white boxe... just a phone!

Today after reading this tread I went to the shop and ask to get it replace again because of the black spots, I had actually 2 on all pictures, this is probaly going on since couple of months.

I got it replace again!

What is going on with this 5??

Bye from Saudi Arabia!

I went to the lincoln rd store in miami fl.

Talked to the manager and he did not want to hear about anyone else having this issue or what I was finding on the internet with other people having the same spotting issue. He claimed that they took it out back and opened it and saw that there was oil inside of it. They would not open it in front of me so I may see for myself. I have no idea how I would get oil inside the iPhone. They would not replace it like i've read in threads here. Not this manager not this store. ***** that my iPhone 5 photos suck with these grey light spots. It almost looks like someone placed there finger prints on the lense a bunch of times. I don't have apple care either which did not help. Now I'm considering buying the replacement rear camera from ifixit.com for $39 and replacing it myself.

Thoughts? thx

That is a classic symptom of dust particles on the camera lens inside the phone. It can also be caused by a scratched or nicked lens cover (crystal) on the outside. I suggest examining the lens cover with a magnifying glass. If you find scratches, nicks or other stuff that won't come off then that's your fault and it would be very nice of Apple to fix this free but they're not obliged to. If that lens cover appears perfectly clear, clean and scratch free then Apple can clear the dust out or replace the phone at the Genius Bar.

I had the exact same clear spots (same than in the very first post) on my iPhone 5 and it was newly replaced with a brand new iPhone 5. I took it to my operator who then sent it to an Apple repair shop and a week after I got informed that warranty covered the problem. It was quick and easy, nobody claimed that warranty would be void or anything, and now I'm a happy owner of a new working device.

There is no longer a gray area where if you're, say, 5 days out of warranty, they'll treat you to a swap.

Once they put in your serial number you're either in warranty or out of warranty. You were lucky. For me, I'll put up with the spots and spend $275 towards a lens for my DSLR.

If you don't have Apple Care, and can buy it, I recommend doing so.

I came across this thread when looking for help with the problem I'm having with my iPhone 5 camera. There is a tiny purple digital circle (with a white center) appearing in all my photos and videos. It is fixed and gets bigger when I zoom.

I brought it to the Apple store and within 1 minute of me explaining and showing him, the genius told me it was a dust issue and attempted to clean it out with compressed air. This didn't work. Since I was 3 weeks out of my 1 year warranty coverage, he told me it would cost $269 to have the phone replaced with the same model. At this point I was kicking myself for not buying applecare, this is the first time I haven't after 10+ years of buying Apple products w/ Applecare and never having any issues. Go figure something like this has to happen the one time I don't buy it...

The thing that is bugging me is, I don't think it's dust. It is a perfect tiny little circle. Every dust issue I've seen online seems to be blob or smudge like when zoomed in. I'm going back for a second opinion at a different Apple store this Saturday, hoping for a better outcome.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? I've tried restoring firmware and nothing seems to work. This has only happened since the iOS7 update btw. Spot the dot in the images below (3rd image is zoomed in)...
