My deleted contacts still show up when I want to send a text message. But when I go to my address book there not there only when I want to send a text MSG there name comes up and if I select them it only show there number not name in the message. How an I get rid of that

This seems crazy in this day & age. You delete a contact or replace an old number with a new one, and the old one's just going to keep appearing? Apple REALLY needs to make a fix for this. There has to be some way to clear the DELETED number out of the memory. I'm not wiping my phone over it, but come on--Pretty big bug in need of a fix.
I believe I have found a solution!
All you have to do it type their name in as if you were going to text them, then you'll see a blue "i", hit that and then hit "Remove From Recents" and then when you go to type in their name again it does not appear! Hallelujah!
After I deleted the number in contacts I sent a message to the number I was trying to delete permanently, then went back and clicked details in the upper right corner of the text message. Then the i with the circle around it, tap that and then click remove from recent. It worked. Yay!
This trick worked beautifully for me. I had tons of contacts left over in "recents" that I had already deleted off of my mom's old phone. I just went through the whole alphabet one letter at a time and used this trick on each contact under all 26 letters. Have had no trouble with it since. HIGLY RECOMMEND.
I have this issue to but when the deleted numbers/addresses appears there is a blue arrow beside. I tap on this arrows and then tap on "delete from recent".

Agreed, but unfortunately, as it stands now, the restore as new is the only way.
Just received my latest update to OS-6. No fix to this annoying problem. I bet this isn't an issue with a droid.

Has anyone figured this problem out...I have restored my phone and everything and I already deleted the contacts so I can't go back in and edit them and then erase them? Any thoughts?
You have to restore the phone as a new device, not from back up. If you restore it from your back up, the numbers will still be there.
