My deleted contacts still show up when I want to send a text message

Just found out that old text conversations are stored as well. If you go to search and type in a letter it'll bring up your text history which is also annoying.

The conversations should only come up if you haven't deleted them.

The "Spotlight" cache memory stores deleted messages and emails. Same as Messages App cache memory stores deleted numbers.

So what's the point of mentioning this? Is there anyway of deleting the "Spotlight" cache memory?

Only if you restore your iPhone as new and not from backup.

i have restored it as a new phone. i still have the same problem. it won't go away

I still have this issue and dligenza's idea hasn't worked for me :'( I have a Gmail account and when I remove this I lose a handful of contacts which is quite annoying too...

This worked for me:

Open Contacts

Type name of deleted contact in Search (it found it even though I deleted it from contacts earlier)

Select the deleted contact

Edit

Delete Contact

meacnp that is exactly what I had to do. It suck and Apple really needs to find a way to fix this but this is the easiest way to get rid of these hidden contacs without wiping your phone.

That'll help when we all get iOS 7. Can't tell you how many times I've texted the wrong person.

Unfortunately, Apple routinely deletes such legitimate comments as "rantings". It is certainly not the customer driven company it once was. That is indicative of this issue persisting for a year now.
