Apple Configurator 1.2 "The file couldn't be opened"

Just updated to Configurator 1.2 from 1.1 (which used to work fine) now refuses to open and displays the error "The file couldn't be opened". It works fine under my Admin account but not my network account. I've already re-installed lion as well as doing a permissions repair on the HD but no luck. There is no com.apple.configurator.plist file anywhere on the computer that I can see, even in the admin account's preferences folder.

I started getting the "The file couldn't be opened." error and found this thread ... which started for me as I was preparing a set of 30 iPads with 2 left and Apple Configurator unexpectadly quit...and then wouldn't reopen.

Steps I took to fix it were based on suggestions in this thread. (THANK YOU)

I'm running on an MBP 10.8.2 with AC 1.2.1

I renamed ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator to com.apple.configurator_LKG

I then opened Apple Configurator which opened right up brand new and fresh and created that folder of the same name again for me...and then quit AC.

I then went into the old / oringial AC folder now located at ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator_LKG/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator and copied all of the files EXCEPT the one named "AppleConfigurator.storedata-journal" (since this is (as I understand) a sort of temporary working database file) to the newly created ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator/Data/Library/Application Support/com.apple.configurator folder and then opened AC again and BOOM! All was there. I continued preparing the 2 iPads that didn't finish and I am seemingly back in business...voucher codes and ALL. 🙂 🙂 🙂

I hope this helps someone else...

I'm running it from a Mobile Account tied to a 10.8.2 server via AFP. So it stores everything locally and then "syncs" only when I login or logout.

It's working great for me at 4 schools...and allows for easy move to a new machine if/when necessary and is a sort of double-backup with the syncing and time machine enabled.

Sorry my fix didn't fix your issue. Good luck!

I can not find any of these folders on my MB running Moutain Lion 10.8.4. My issue is similar. Updating iPads the other day,Cofigurator shut down and would not reopen. Uninstalled and reinstalled app. Shut down etc. Have tried searching for the files specified in the posts but they can not be found even using Terminal. I have 35 iPads to update. HELP please.

Hi,

I have a similar problem with the new configurator. It was updated automatically but for days it crashed instantly each and every time it's opened. After repeated restarting of the computer and app, I now get some things working but can't back up the master ipad (needed to deploy to all the rest!)

I wondered if you or anyone could help with the following error message that appears when backuping up using the new configurator!!

The zip archive is corrupt

CRC mismatch; expected e5c82713 but got 0

I have the responsibility of deploying ipads for 6 classes but don't have a tech background! Just the most IT savvy of the teachers unfortunately!

I am stuck and can't find a way to revert to a previous version. Any help with this error would be much appreciated!!

I just wanted to confirm, I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and Apple Configurator Version 1.1.2, and after a software update, my configurator broke also. I also received the error, "The file couldn't be opened," whenever I trid to launch configurator. I deleted AppleConfigurator.storedata-journal and was able to launch configurator with all of my settings and profiles.

Thanks.
