External links to apps in App Store no longer working

Are you on an iPad with iOS 6? Every app link with itms-apps or http fail for us, we noticed from our house ads, but also other ads experience the same problem. Try for example to open:

itms-apps://itunes.apple.com/app/sudoku/id398990729?mt=8

or

http://itunes.apple.com/app/sudoku/id398990729?mt=8

with your iPad running iOS 6, for me it just opens the app store.

This again, works: https://itunes.apple.com/app/sudoku/id398990729?mt=8

Note that the "official" App Store Link Maker generates links with "https"--which properly deep link for me--as opposed to "http"

We're having the same problem. We tested some paid ads, they don't even work, lots of companies are paying for ad clicks that lead only to the app store, not to the app.

It apparently works with https, but http and itms-apps fail.

I haven't found any that do not work. Do you have a specific example, perhaps?

also, you might try a reset: Close the app, double click home button and close the app from the app tray. Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts down. Ignor the off slider if it should appear. When shut down is complete, turn the iPad back on.

Yes I am on IOS 6, and yes both links open for me. However, that is not the OPs issue. He is tapping links in a specific app (AppZapp) that should take him directly to the App Store and open the page for the app in question. Different issue.

The only thing that link should is that the page on the Apple web site. Is that what you are getting? It is not the correct link to open the App Store.

you could also try deleting and redownloading the AppZapp app.

It works for me. I tested using both the UK and the US sites (same app). It worked in Safari. I did note that it did not in iCab Mobile, but that could because of the browser ID I have set.

You could try clearing Safari's cache, both history and cookies. But beyond that I have no clue.

Links to App Store aren't working for me from safari or any other apps that send me to the App Store. As mentioned above, I am also just getting the store front. I have ios6 and newest ipad (so cool!). I'm new to all of this .. Are there other things I should be checking?

This same thing started happening to me last night. When I click a link in Safari, it stops at the App Store main page. When using sites and apps like AppZapp and AppShopper, things appear to be fine.

I found today that I suffered the same issue on my 3rd generation iPad running iOS 6.0. My solution, while a bit drastic, was to go into Settings->General and choose Reset All Settings. After the settings got nuked and the device restarted, the problem was no longer present.

This reset didn't nuke my data, just WiFi settings and a few other things. The only annoying thing is that I had to choose a new passcode as our Exchange server settings wouldn't let me use my existing passcode for the device.

It's exactly the same issue. Our house ads use itms-apps:// and used to open the App Store on the apps page. Now it only opens the App Store.

I was just running into this same issue. It appears changing http:// to https:// will correct the issue.
