IMessage usage

I want all text messages to show up under usage on my Verizon bill ( we have teenagers). If we turn off the iMessage under settings on our phones will this accomplish this? Even if someone is texting one of the kids from another iPhone? We have unlimited texting with Verizon already so the number of texts won't affect the bil one way or another.

Already purchased the iPhone, plus, dumb phones have text messaging too. We had blackberries, very aggravating. Netflix and Hulu work better on the iPhone. Lots of reasons not to downgrade, don't want to punish child just want to make sure a bad apple isn't going to lead child astray. It happen to the best of kids; they're under so much peer pressure. Just doing my job as a mother.

you can turn off text messaging completely if you want to, just tell your carrier about it. have you ever bothered at these alternate solutions? a smartphone is not a necessity for children. what did your parents give you?

nobody is talkng about blackberrries, thats also a smartphone. try to research the market and you will find simple nokia/motorola phones which make perfect calls, can set alarms, and text message (which can be turned off as described above)

peer pressure...what crap. make your children learn to accept what you give them and have the courage to say NO to them ,..it'll be in their own best interest. why are you so intent on following what some other kids' parents maybe doing?

you are the one caving to peer pressure at the cost of your kids if what you say is true.

In other words give them NO freedom? I don't have a problem with them having a smartphone, I have a problem with one person who is a possible problem. I don't have a problem with them having friends who they text, talk or communicate with, there's just the one. Besides, they are teenagers, not toddlers, they'll be adults in a few years so the hardass approach would not be wise.

I am aware of the alternatives you speak of.

Before this iPhone I could check the Verizon bill under usage, and see incoming and outgoing numbers on the text messages and ask to see the texts if I had a concern. With iMessage those numbers (iPhone to iPhone) won't show up under version usage; thought I explained that early on?? - don't want to turn off text messaging, I like to be able to text my child and have her text me. More convenient than talking sometimes.

Thanks for your crappy parental advice, but thats's not what I came on this forum for.

Electronics guy... Please remember that your response to p2p questions should pertain to to specific question; not continued communication...

Anna, Everythign your looking for can be found in settings. I don't know if your dealing with a son or daughter or both in this situation, but I really understand your situation. First with both phones, make sure you have iCould turned on. Then in your childs phone, turn on photo stream 😉... This will put all photos in a public folder(public ONLY to the iPhones on your account). What will happen is everytime your child takes a pic, or saves a pic sent to them, it will appear in the photo stream. BEWARE, if you have this feature turned on, your child will be able to view the same from you... SO, if you decide to send the Hubby a pic of what he has waiting when he gets home from work, ya know.. Dinner, your child will be able to view it in the stream. If your child is at school and takes/saves a pic, as soon as they get home and are on your home Wi-Fi, The photostream will update automatically. Then you need to go to iMessage and add every email your child has to your locations to accept iMessages for. Same goes for the phone number.

If I gave you an actual step by step, you'd be here for days reading.. as you go into settings, look around. You will see that you will finds these things rather easily. REMEMBER, the second you add an email, or phone number to recieve them, ALL devices will get a push notification stating "example@abc.com has been added to Example's iPhone" So if you want to do this when they are away from home, you can say something like you restored your phon ewith Apple today and they walked you through removing the emails off the account. But if you have their phone in hand, then you can clear the notification and they will be none the wiser. So i suggest, "punishing" your child by taking the phone away, and then make these adjustments. BEST PART... If your child tries to be slick because they caught on to what your doing, everytime they add or remove iMessgae, you'll get a notification that the email has been removed and/or added... hehehe AND even BETTER... If they do catch on and want to try wo be slick, if someone messages them through iMessage and they turned it off, iMessage will still be active on your phone and you will STILL get every message haha

Good luck!
