How do I transfer music to my galaxy s3?

Yeah so is your instructions. No need for any software/App.

When you connect the phone to the computer it will show up in Finder Usually with the name "No Name".

Then if you don't have a folder on the phones internal storage area named Music create one.

Now all you have to do is go to the iTunes Library and copy over the music you want on the phone.

Which the iTunes Library is located at /Users/YourUserName/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music. In that folder you will find all your music.

Just select what you want and drag and drop to the MUSIC folder on the phone or use Command+c from the iTunes music folder and Command+v to place it on the phone in the MUSIC folder.

It is very easy to transfer music between different OS. Such as transferring music from iTunes to Android.

The steps to do it is very simple.

You just need to download Phone Transfer, connect Android to computer, and choose whatever music you want to transfer on your own.

Bluetooth is an option also. The disadvantages are:

1. Significantly slower.
2. Ususlly transfers to the bluetooth folder, requiring a file manager app on the phone to move stuff to a more appropriate location.
3. File manager type search not drag/drop from iTunes.

The Android OS in the S3 will be able to find your tunes no matter where you put them. It is just a convenience to put them into a dedicated folder. You should not need to copy artwork files as they are usually imbedded in the mp3 file. If they are not, you can use itunes' "get info" function to add the artwork. Not sure how copying artwork files to the S3 might work.

For both of you. You have to manually copy the files over to the Android phone. iTunes only works with Apple devices.

To find your music you have to go to the music folder in your UserName folder then iTunes/iTunes Media then there will be albums and or artists listed and music from those artists in another subfolder. Just copy that to your phone. Your phone should show up as a Storage device. You may have to create a folder on it called Music and put your music in that folder. Then the S3 will see it.

In order for an Android device to "show up" on the Mac desktop, it must be in USB mass storage mode. Google in its massive wisdom removed this functionality beginning with ver 3.0.

If you plug in a Galaxy S3, which is probably running Jelly Bean 4.1.2, into a Mac, nothing will happen. The Android File Transfer App, installed on a Mac, restores this functionallity. I need it to transfer files to my Nexus 7 that is running 4.2.2. The Nexus 7 manual even contains the instructions for installing this app.

What version of Android is your "No Name" phone running?

Also, while you can use the file manager to find songs in the iTunes Library (I didn't mean to suggest you couldn't) you can also drag and drop directly from iTunes. I find this easier, but others can certainly disagree.

No they haven't removed it. It is on my HTC EVO 3D that is running Android 4.0.2

Check in the Android Settings for Connect to PC.

Not an expert on Android yet. Still learning. It appears that individual device makers may be creating their own flavors of ICS and or Jelly Bean.

My Nexus does not have that function. If you go to Settings > Storage > Menu > USB > Computer Connections there is no USB Mass Storage mode. It has a "Media device" mode that when turned on allows for file transfers from WINDOWS or "using Android File Transfer on Mac."

Don't have a Galaxy S3 to play with, but I assume as the original poster is having a problem, he may be in the same shoes as I am.

I suppose as a first step he should check the USB settings to see which mode is available and make sure it is active. A quick check of an online version of the S3 manual seems to suggest that "Media Device" is the transfer mode and not USB Mass Storage. If that is the case he may need the File Transfer App.

Just connect your android to your computer (pc or mac don't matter) then (unless you have iTunes set up to copy songs to the iTunes folder) copy your music files to a folder on your computer and then drag that folder to the Galaxy S3.

Besides, I would like to recommend you a software called Android Transfer, which can easily transfer music, photos, contacts and more from iTunes to Android phone.

Google led me to this thread and I'm hoping tht someone can explain in simple terms to this newbie to both iPad and Galaxy S3.

I have not connected my phone to my Vista PC before, so I expect the phone will show as a removable drive.

If that is the case, will it show the phone's internal 16GB memory and also it's 64GB Micro SD card seperately?

I do not understand why, but on my PC, I have two different paths that lead to the same folder, and a third path which leads to a different folder!:-

1)

Admin > Music > My Music > iTunes which holds three folders:-

Album Artwork, iTunes Music, and previous iTunes Libraries along with two system files:-

iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml

-------I suspect that this is the route to an older folder probably created by iTunes 10 or earlier--------------------------

2)

Admin > Music > iTunes

3)

Computer > Data (F) > iTunes

These last two lead to the same folder which I suspect was created when I update to iTunes 11 and it contains the following folders:- Album Artwork, iTunes Media, Previous iTunes Libraries,

There are also five system files: iTunes Library.itl iTunes Library Extras.itdb iTunes Genius.itdb iTunes Music Library.xml and something called "sentinel".

Since my "external SD Card" has such a large capacity, I was thinking of dragging my whole library from my PC onto the phone.

Do I just drag the "Music" folder which is inside the "Media" folder on to the phone's SD card?

Also, will the phone's player be able to access and play the files?

Then there is the associated artwork which is in the iTunes "Album Artwork"....do I also drag and drop that in the same way?

I take it that if I want all my music copied to the phone, I could just drag the existing iTunes "Music" folder direct to the SD Card without creating a new folder, otherwise it would be a folder inside a folder ...wouldn't it? 😕

You CAN try that. But, I would not recommend trying to copy it ALL AT ONCE. I have had problems trying to copy too much at once like that. The iTunes directory has an artist based structure. My recommendation is to copy a few artists at a time to the SD music folder.

I had the same problem but really all you do is click this link and download the app. Once you've downloaded the app you have to manually drag your music from your itunes to the music folder in your android!

For Windows users, there's really no need to do all of this file copying/creating folders business. I found a great Windows app that reads and sync's iTunes library beautifully. It's called Double Twist. It looks and acts just like iTunes but it can sync to any device wirelessly. A brilliant feature. It can also automatically sync whenever your device is on the same network (like when you get home). The Double Twist mobile app is also a really great playback app with tons of features.
