Flaky iPhone 5 wifi sync with itunes

Been having a **** of a time trying to sync via wifi with my iPhone 5.

Long time iPhone user here so I know what to do and I'm doing everything right.

My iPhone 3GS works like it should while my iPhone 5 sometimes shows up in itunes sometimes it doesn't.

When it does it takes a long time for it to show up. Like 10-15 minutes after I plug it in the power outlet. (3GS shows up instantly) Can't figure out why.

I've changed my network settings to static IP, enable the ports etc. nothing helped fix the problem.

Could it be bad hardware components with my phone?

This is driving me nuts ... I just switched back to the iPhone after having issues with an Android device because I wanted a reliable experience.

New iTunes/IOS 6 is a total kludge. To get my iPhone 5 to sync, I have to reboot iTunes almost everytime.

I also have an iPad 3 and, while less problematic, also has WiFi syncing issues since upgrading iTunes/IOS.

Funny because when I called Apple they said there was no known issue with WIFI connectivity. I was told to re-initialize my iPhone 5 and not copy my backup and re-install each app by hand!

Despite the claim that iOS 6.02 has an "impact on WIFI" (see they refuse to say there is a problem) it has not fixed it for me. My 3GS still shows up instantly when I launch iTunes and my iPhone 5 doesn't. I have to should both down and restart a few times until it finally shows up in iTunes.

Steve Jobbs would be proud of this!

I've ended up dumping iTunes after being frustrated with all the latest issues. I now use Google to sync my contacts/calendars/etc. with my devices (iPad 3 and iPhone 5) and MS Outlook (on a Windows PC).

iCloud is also a total kludge especially with how it integrates with MS Outlook (Thank God I had that backed up because it essentially destroyed my contact database).

I love Apple products ... but, I think they've lost sight of what made them great and I'm really dissapointed with them.

I have been frustrated for months along with many others. WIFI Sync was hit or miss at best; usually didn't work. I just set my IP address on my iPhone to "STATIC" per instructions at:

http://iphone.namitkarlekar.com/2009/05/fixing-your-iphones-ip-on-wifi-network.h tml

Have plugged-in/unplugged iPhone and restarted iTunes several times. So far WIFI Sync seems to work exactly as advertised no matter what order I start iTunes and plug iPhone into power source. If this remains true then I will be forever grateful to Namit Karlekar for such an incredibly easy fix! One so easy, that it is incredible to believe Apple has neither fixed the issue internally, nor shared any such solution with its numerous loyal and annoyed patrons, who have been griping about it for months and months. Shameful, really if I were forced to choose a single word to describe their inaction!

Hope this may be a permanent fix for myself and others. Keeping my mental fingers crossed for all of us. Good Luck!

I also tried this with mixed results...

(BTW, even if it works I doubt Apple would release this "hack" as a "solution" - I'd be the first to shoot them down in flames saying "fix it properly guys" - my old iPhone 3GS still works perfectly but my brand-new iPhone 5 doesn't - that's crazy!)

...Using this I have found that with iTunes running on the computer, the device doesn't initially show-up in iTunes until I try to initiate a sync from the iPhone. Once this phone-initiated sync has been done, the device shows up in iTunes and I can initiate a sync from iTunes.

When I close and restart iTunes sometimes the iPhone appears and sometimes it doesn't... until I've done the phone-initaited sync again.
