Dent on glass of Retina screen

Hi all,

I have a 3 months old MacBook Pro Retina and recongnized a spot, what I though was a dead pixel.

Looking closer though, I realised that somebody (definately not me!), somehow poked the screen with a pointy item, maybe a pen!

Now I have a little dent in the glass which is so close to the actual panel (screen) that it almost seems like it's 'pressing' the pixel underneath and causing it to glow white on a black background (kinda like a dead pixel).

It could also be, however, that the plastic is refracting the light around the dent? We're talking about a 0.2mm dent here...

Did anyone else come across this? Is the screen really that vulnerable and delicate on a Retina MacBook Pro?

Cheers,

Chris

In follow-up to my earlier post, I took my Macbook in around 4pm on Fri Dec 27. Their "triage nurse" came around before my actual Genuis Bar appt, which wasn't for another hour (I was ridiculously early). He took a quick look, confirmed the spot existed, I told him I had no idea how the damage had occurred since it was less than two months old and handled carefully. He confirmed they had a new display in stock and that I had backed up my data/was willing to leave it, wrote up a work order and I signed off that there would be no charge to replace the display. He said I COULD have it back as early as the next day but it could be as long as 5 days. They called about 3 hours later that it was ready for pickup.

When I picked it up, I tried to get more information about the cause of the issue but the guy wasn't talking. He assured me that as long as they ascertained it wasn't my fault, it's covered under warranty. I confirmed the AppleCare I had purchased had that same coverage and he said yes. No word on how to prevent a repeat of the damage other than "be careful - the retina displays are thin and there's not much protection around the frame," which I've now been told by 3 different Apple employees, including one who gave me **** for having one of those rubber keyboard overlays on the machine. He said as little as a post-it note on the machine could be enough to crack the screen with it closed.

Just wanted to share my experience, fwiw.

I found a dent on the screen on lower left hand corner. It was quite a distressing discovery. I got this thing for Xmas and it has not even been two months. I really expected this (almost three thousand dollar) machine to have better quality. SO DISAPPOINTED !!!! I have an appt with the Genius bar tomorrow. I hope they say something pleasant.

The Apple tech said it was my fault that the screen has a divot, a little crater, at the lower left hand corner of the screen. I asked for a manager. After an hour of dispute with the store manager, he decided to replace the screen for me at NO CHARGE. I told the manager that there are many others people all over the world who shared the same experience and I pointed him to this thread as a reference. He refused to acknowledge the validity of info. He said people could write whatever they want on the net blog. I told him that this thread ALONE (on APPLE site) has almost 7000 views so he must at least give apple product users who took the time to share the info some credibility. I have been an Apple supporter for ten years, I am beginning to think that it's time to consider an alternative to apple products.

Hello,

I put photo of "cosmietic defect" in one of my post. Apple build very low quality laptop - Ratina display. Yes, i will never buy Apple, this is my first and last Apple.

In my case Apple support two times refused to repair this screen. Right now i have two dent on glass and one black dot under glass. My 6 years old lenovo have better display than almost 12 months Apple.

Apple's policy ends with the purchase of equipment for which, let's face it, everyone overpay 2 times.
