Dent on glass of Retina screen

Hi all,

I have a 3 months old MacBook Pro Retina and recongnized a spot, what I though was a dead pixel.

Looking closer though, I realised that somebody (definately not me!), somehow poked the screen with a pointy item, maybe a pen!

Now I have a little dent in the glass which is so close to the actual panel (screen) that it almost seems like it's 'pressing' the pixel underneath and causing it to glow white on a black background (kinda like a dead pixel).

It could also be, however, that the plastic is refracting the light around the dent? We're talking about a 0.2mm dent here...

Did anyone else come across this? Is the screen really that vulnerable and delicate on a Retina MacBook Pro?

Cheers,

Chris

I have a late 2012 Macbook Pro 13" retina... I have the same problem. I thought it was dead pixels... But its actually a small dent in the "glass". Really annoying because I have taken really good care of my device and even have had a screen protector on it. Something sharp and hard must have been on the keyboard when I closed it or something... IDK... Seems like it (the screen) needs to be more durable. You never see this problem with PC 😟 C'mon apple help me out....

Same here I've only had my laptop for about 3 months (since I started college) and the fact that this has happened is beyond me. Considering that I am super careful with it is ridiculous. I didn't pay nearly $1500 for cheap glass. You would figure that a company that prides themselves on quality would, have better glass. At one point they did because my family bought a MBP a few years back and the screen on that is still practically spotless. Im making an appointment with the genius bar, to have it checked out... Hopefully they are willing to repair it, but after reading this I am doubting that will happen. I will try to update you guys on my status once I go to my appointment.

I had a dead pixel left-centre of my new 15' retina pro after about 12 weeks of use. I was unsure whether it existed when I bought it but became apparent when editing photos. When dimming the screen you could see a small but visible deformation in the screen.

I took it to my local Apple Store and they replaced the screen free of charge.

Attendant said that Apple has a "zero dead pixel policy".

Just before my 3 years of Apple Care will run out soon, I brought back my MacBook Pro Retina to the Apple Store to have the screen replaced for the third time.

There were quite some dead pixels and discolourations on the screen after one year of use, due to tiny dents on the screen.

I received a new screen without any problems. I can only recommend always to go to the Apple Store for these inquiries, don't bother with any 'authorised resellers/retailers'.

Now, I'm going back to putting a cloth between the keyboard and screen again.

Cheers.
