Apple TV Remote not working & synching is not what's wrong

Hey guys any suggestions my apple remote stopped working. It's only the up button doesn't seem to work, and some times it seems to work like the selection button.

Ive tried Menu and Rewind, still nothing, i think my Remote may actually be broken (even though i havent touched it for weeks.) Ive tried changing the battery multiple times, but to no avail, one last try at Rewind an Menu before i throw it in the bin!

My Appletv has offically been down for 3 days(Felt like a month) out of the blue the remote stopped working even after adding a new battery(Hmmm). Switched to my Iphone App remote, but inconvenient. Instead, I let the Appletv sit until I could find an easier solution

AppleTv is up and working holding menu&back button for 6 seconds. Totally going to catch up on my Korean Dramas. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! - Take Care!

Genius! Thanks, by the way it took this non-genius a few moments to realize that the back button was the 9 o'clock (west) position on the black circular dial outside of the select button. You saved my day. I had tried to use the Apple TV in a hotel and had purchased another remote, because I forgot to bring the one from home. Nothing worked on the hotel TV anyway. WI/FI was too slow I think. Thanks again!

I did what tabre3 suggested, hold down menu and rewind and it worked! But now when I hold down the menu button to go back to the main menu of the Apple TV it turns down the volume on my television. Any solutions to that?
