iMac 1TB Replacement Program

I just got an email from Apple stating my iMac qualifies for the iMac 1TB Seagate HD Relacement Program. Oh boy, aren't I lucky 😟 I have Time Machine and a CCC bootable clone backup. Is it as simple as cloning back my System onto the new hard drive. The Apple email says I need to start from scratch with the Install DVD that came with the computer. What's the best proceedure.

Mine failed just 3 months ago, but it's unclear if my replacement is affected in the recall. I've now called Apple Support twice and have gotten two different answers. On the first call, the technician said if the your serial number comes up eligilble and it's a SeaGate drive, you should take it in and replace it. The second technician said if it's been replaced, it should be fine. Anyone know if the replacement drives are faulty?

. . . and, FYI, when I had mine replaced, they asked which operating system I was using when it failed and they restored it at the store on the new drive. Time machine restored my computer as expected. It was quite smooth. No complaints about the replacement - though it was a pain hauling a 27" iMac back into the store without the box! ! !

I called AppleCare today about getiing my iMac HD replaced on site and just got an email confirmation that the part was ordered and a technician will be calling to set up an appointment. All this without AppleCare. Impressive.

I just hope the tech knows what he/she is doing as well as the repair that would have been done at the Apple Retail location. One could only assume Apple contracts with people that know what there doing.

Based on my one-time experience, they surely do know what they're doing. In my case, the tech had a newbie under training with him and walked him through the entire process. Newbie described what and how, with the tech adding corrections (when needed) and then just providing additional comments based on his experience to kill the silence. I couldn't have done it better and that's based on years building stereo equipment, o-scopes, and color TVs from kits and repairing many electronic items.

Maybe not. Early in this thread Joe Gramm posted that his drive was made by Nvidia. You replied at one point:

"I see you posted your HD info and it does say Nvidia - that is strange, especially since your hard drive also starts with ST which is Seagate."

So maybe my comment should have gone to Joe Gramm, but I didn't see that you had explained to him that Nvidia made the chipset. Since yours was the last in a series on that topic, I replies to you.
