Apple screws Ipad 3 customers with iPad 4

I purchased iPad 3 two months ago. Now iPad 4 is out and twice as fast. I just wasted 729 dollars? IS nothing going to be done for the loyal apple customers who believed our expensive purchase wouldn't be obsolete in two months? THIS HAS NEVER been apples policy in past to upgrade before a year. Very disappointed

I told myself that I was ok doing every other cycle. I understand that technology changes.I was happy with my iPad 1 and graciously upgraded to my iPad3. I understand that new products come along. And yes, I got my "new iPad" when it came out. I'm a little upset that there is an iPad 4 and mine has been wiped off the landscape. However, with this release fiasco, it will be a hard sell to get me to upgrade to a new model for a verry long time. Dont release anymore half a## products. Apple is revolutionary-dont mass produce things YOU feel will be worthless in 6 months!

I totally agree with what you're saying, they have chose to ignore the situation regardless of wether they agree or not. At least give an explanation as to what the future holds ie..is it going to be a 6 month or 12 month cycle from now on.But I guess they won't even do that as they like to be secretive .But then being secretive could now be they're down fall..

Over to the forum police for them to disagree ..

Hi Carl,

In response...

By being made in the same Chinese plant I mean that the iPad is the same in the UK as the USA... Only the power adapter is different.. So there is no reason why the cannot swap my pad for the new one... Even if i pay postage or pay the price of a new power adapter. I should get this choice..!

The 'Big Deal' is that for the same $500 i spent buying my second IPad ( i previously owned iPad 1) was that i thought i was getting the latest tech with at least a 6 month gap before the next iPad's release... This proved not to be the case and the staff in store did not even mention a newer version being released earlier than normal.. They did say about the iPad mini though.

After seeing that there are many forums full of disgusted Apple product owners, then I believe that Apple risks losing the reason why they are successful. The Customer. ( who in business is always right.)

I am all for newer technology being released to keep ahead of the game but to not give a flip about the people who help make them a success is poor all round.

I was told that customer services for Europe was different than the US customer services, why is that.. It is a global company so customer services should also be global shouldn't they..?

The chance to speak to someone personally at customer services is also a joke... It took at least three different people to be able to take down my email address correctly.

My 'local' Apple store is over 20 miles away and they are not interested....

PS Carl do you work for Apple as you always appear to have a comment

Why would we be shooting our selves in the foot by no longer paying for over priced and technology that's yrs behind the rest..Take the iPhone 5 for instance, that's only just got Panaramic view for taking photos and they says its innovation..My Sony Xperia S has a dual core 1.5GB processor ,also panoramic view with a 12.1 megapixel camera that's also records video in 3D ,that came onto the market almost 12 months ago.It has a better 4.3" display with a pixel density of 1280 x 720 with 342ppi and the list goes on.Now that's AMAZING & REVOLUTIONARY in any ones books & a fraction of the cost too. Apples Retina display no longer has the highest screen resolution in the world, that crown now belongs to Samsung/Google with their latest offering & again a lot cheaper. So I can't understand why any one would be shooting them selves in the foot by not buying apple products.Their is life beyond apple you know,it's just that you haven't woke up & seen the light yet.

Which reviewers have notably remarked how it consistently hic-cups. I could go on and on about this, but here is just one example:

"Every so often, the Xperia evinces a here-again-then-not sluggishness that just doesn't match up to its powerful CPU. Attempt to wake the tab from a sleep state and you could wind up waiting up to 10 seconds, during which time you'll likely mash the power button repeatedly. Make it through to the home screen and it's more or less a game of chance: will navigation be brisk and smooth or jittery and halting? The same goes for jumping in and out of the app drawer, a transition that either zooms without a hitch or stutters noticeably."

Wayne 2e0bvj wrote:

Too bad the focus is crap. Not many people want to see 3D out of focus. LOL. Many reviewers have noted "Add to that the slickness of the S' screen and its inability to adjust zoom with the volume rocker and you have a pretty good excuse to never use the camera app."

Also "The zoom function should mostly be avoided as it requires using the onscreen slider and the resulting shots are so blurry as to be unusable."

We haven't even mentioned to all of the other issues with it like worse battery life, how it's plauged by glare problems (so I hope you like looking at your own reflection) its cluttered look and feel, and Sony has also acknowledged a Wi-Fi problem with the tablet. So much for your "technology that's yrs behind the rest" LOL 😁

But the biggest reason why you'd be shooting yourself in the foot has nothing to do with the hardware. It's the apps. Android is a virus and malware magnet and notorious for having dismal pathetic apps for tablets. They are mostly phone apps that are sized up (and it looks it). Half of the stuff that I needed to use on my android tablet wasn't even available, but it was available AND MADE specifically for iOS tablets. So even if one day there was a nice android tablet (hardware wise) it still wouldn't be useable because it's sorely lacking in the apps department. I'm sure in a couple of years it will be addressed, but right now android tablet apps are a joke (in many ways).

Apple isn't the problem, but with all due respect your ignorance is. Apple doesn't just randomly wake up one day and decide to release a new product. Competing products and the market place dictates when Apple releases new products. Plus most tech companies release products just before the holidays anyway's. Unless you live under a rock this is well known. Job 1 is to keep pressure on competitors. Apple is doing a good job of this. Several competing iPad products were sold so low that the manufactures didn't make any money on them. In the tech world 6 - 7 months is now becoming the new normal for tablets. It will stay like this until some of the competition bows out. Another part of the problem is people who seem to think that they "just have to" always have the latest version of a product. Fact is that iPad 3's still work just as good as they did when they were first released. Apple still supports them. They also have the highest resale value of any tablet on the market.

I too just bought my iPad 3, just in September. Do I feel gipped? Not at all. Look, if you buy things based on bells and whistles, then you'd be buying every six weeks. The best example I can give is when mobile phone makers exclaim their RAM Memory is now 1GB! Some even 2GB. Oooh, wow. The fact is, an average of 765MB of RAM in a mobile phone memory is more than enough; even Jobs, Gates and other have recognized, this.

I'm an Apple Shareholder and fan, but Apple products, like any other brand have their limitations. What I have noticed, in the past 2 years with Apple, is innovation has been replaced with technology upgrades. Apple fans should take notice of this as it speaks volumes of how Apple is fallin a bit behind on the innovation arena

Okay, the A6 chip is out, it's faster than the A5. Yet, is it fast enought to make any difference to me to justify buying it. No. I'm on an iPad 3 right now with a Zagg keyboard. I type over 100 wpm. I use to type over 100 wpm on an electric typewriter. What I have now, goes faster than most can do, so again, do I need an A6 chip? No. Is the A6 going to make my fingers zoom in/out faster while viewing pics, or make my hand swipe faster? No. And, is the A6 chip going to make the new iPad faster in areas where your WiFi connection or carrier single is weak or limited? No, because the limitations are based on those other entities.

The iPad 3 screen is fantastic and once we get to 1280x1600 resolutions, your eye cannot detect the pixel difference. So, to make a screen look better, the simple solution is to make it brighter with hued lighting. Is the camera on the new iPad really that much better. No. Can the new iPad handle larger version softwares with it's new A6 chip; No.

In short, all this stuff is no more than bells and whistles. What has Apple done on the new iPad that really makes it worth it for any iPad 3 owner to upgrade? Absolutely nothing.

Let's put Apple marketing into perspective. The new iPhone 5, according to Apple, was a resounding success. Well, not really. Sure, 3 Million units old in opening month. Yet, based on the shareholder info I get, 89% of those sales were to existing iPhone 4 users, and 47% of those sold were 2nd phones for exiting users (families). To put this into perspective, Android phones sold 10 million units in the 1st half of 2012. 78% of those sales were NEW Android users, not existing. Thus, who's market share is truly growing? Android. This is where Apple has missed the boat entirely.

Now the iPad Mini arrives. Well, over the past month, I created a group of pole takers. We've asked family, friends, co-workers and folks on the sidewalk, if they own an iPad; many do. Would they buy an iPad Mini. I was not surprised by the answer. To date of 895 iPad owners polled, 82% will NOT downsize to an iPad mini. They are not willing to give up the iPad screen size. So, we decided to add a 2nd question; would you consider it if the iPad Mini was 8.9" screen (like the new Kindle Fire). Of 895 iPad owners, 78% said they YES, they would get the Mini if it was 8.9"

This is what I'm talking about: Apple isn't listening or watching the market. Amazon not only listened to it's Kindle Users, but also watched the trend in the overall tablet market. Amazon, also conducted a large 1 year poll on the topic. New Kindles selling out, and the Kindle Fires heading the same way should be a wake up call to Apple.

Regardless, Ipad and the Ipad Mini I'm sure will continue to have limitations on some of the most basic functions.

iPhoto - on iPads you cannot merge Events, only create new Albums - truly the dumbess thing in the world

iPhoto - on iPads you cannot delete pictures - you must delete them from the general photos on the iPad, that deletes them from iPhoto

These two functions are so basic, there is no reason for them not to be in the iPad version of the software

Facebook - Whether on the website version of FB or the mobile App, there are many things that will not work on an iPad. You cannot upload many pictures to create an Album. Instead, you must create an Album with 5 pics, then add more using the +Add More Pics in FB. Thus, you have to load 5 pics at a time.

Facebook Timeline Cover Pic - you can change this, but you cannot position drag it around to center it on an iPad

Adobe Flash - Will NOT work on an iPad. Only Flash 11 is still available for mobile devices, specifically only Android devices. I use Flash 11 on my Droid Razr Maxx and my Kindle Fire, but can't on my iPad3

Knowing Flash was leaving, even jobs noted this, Apple has failed miserably to come up with an alternative. Yet, so has Google, Microsoft and any of the big players. This is one of the largest oversight screwups in tech history I can recall. The impact on website owners is huge as more and more visitings cannot watch the video content. And, let's get real, most 3rd party apps for iPad and Apple devices are crap.

All this said, the iPads still offer great opportunities to do things. For anyone who wants more Macbook or PC features on an iPad, there is plenty now to nudge towards an iPad.

QuickOffice Pro - available for iPads & tablets & smartphones. Offers Excel, PowerPoint & Word - its' more than most will ever need. I use it frequently on my iPad 3, no issues.

Photoshop Touch - I use the full verson of PS @ $650. PS Touch, again, is more than most will ever need. Allows up to 17 layers on a pic. It offers much more editing than iPhoto. So, if you're looking to play, it's a great alternative as tablets cannot handle full verson of PS

DropBox (beat iCloud in abilities and pricing) - DropBox is a cloud to hold anything you want: pics, docs, etc. It works on all systems: Linus, iOS, Windows and Android. So, if you have different devices, a great way to go.

Website buidling - this is tricky. I've been told at the Apple Store and in these forums; You cannot work on websites on an iPad. Oh, contrare. I'm a huge Dreamweaver fan, but at the cost and massive amounts of HTML code writing I do, I'm over it after years of using it. Instead, I use WordPress which allows me to add HTML code to templats other build or I build. How does it work on an iPad? Simple, you download the WordPress onto your Host Server. Thus, you only have to log onto your account and start working on your website. I built this, on my iPad 3 for my Homeowner's Association - still under construction

This is why I finally moved to an iPad 3. We have finally reached a point where you can do so much more beyond Social Media, Pics, Web Surfing and Email.

So, for those iPad 3 users feeling gipped, don't. You have a great device that is good to go for several more years. Don't get lured by the bells and whistles and keep it simple. Really examine your needs. As I said, Apple is more about sells now than Innovation; the company is finally turned the corner of putting the demands of shareholders desire for huge returns, over true innovation to bring in new customers, instead of the current users simply upgrading.

Well put, made interesting reading & food for thought..What made it more interesting and a pleasure to read is that you didn't feel the need to belittle people & put them down like others in this thread, or criticise their ability to spell words correctly .That was a non bias view on the topic . May be the 2 who does this and not just in this thread should take note here and you know who you are..This approach to people works and with no animosity..

Let me preface this with saying I DID NOT read this entire thread.

It seems that the majority of people posting here believe their 3rd generation iPad is suddenly rendered inoperable by the release of a 4th generation iPad.

Here are some things to consider. First, the 3rd gen iPad is supported on the current version of iOS unlike the original iPad. Second the 3rd gen iPad is no slouch there are already games playable on the 3rd gen iPad that are near console quality. Third, are you all in such a hurry to need to buy 30 pin to lightning adapters and/or new accessories for the lightning connector? Two things concerning apple care/12 month manufacture warranty. First people "trade in" their iPads all the time, apple refurbishes them and uses them in two ways, either resale for cheaper than new or as warranty replacements. Second what do you think happens to your "broken" iPad when you give it to apple for replacement. They fix what is broken on it and give to the next guy as a refurbished iPad. The cycle continues and there will be plenty of 3rd gen iPads for all of those who need to have it replaced under warranty/apple care.

You also have to consider one last thing. Remember when apple announced the original iPad? People came at it like "oh it needs this" "and it needs that too" (i.e. camera for skype/video calling/eventually facetime). So when apple debuted the iPad 2 people were excited that "this is what the iPad should have been". It was significantly different than the original iPad. There were new features, slimmer design, rounded side/back for more comfortable feel, cameras, video calling, etc. The 4th generation iPad doesn't do anything the 3rd gen iPad can't do. Ok, yeah faster... it isn't like you're upgrading from a bottle rocket to a space shuttle.

To all the remarks about "they still sell the iPad 2". Here is how they have positioned their tablet line up, iPad mini, iPad (non-retina display) 2, iPad with retina display. Consider the new MBPs they are with and without retina displays. Seems straight forward to me. They are offering some different price points to expand who they can reach in the market. For some cost is the ultimate feature and they'll opt for the iPad 2, some it's portability and they'll opt for the iPad mini, and others want everything and they'll get the iPad with retina display.

I think consumers haven't quite realized that Tim Cook is a businessman. Steve Jobs was a connoisseur and consumer. He made products he would love to use. He liked to use the best products out there. I believe that Mr. Cook is grounded in Mr. Jobs' principles of superior design, and ease of use. However, I believe he works more for the stock holders and wall street than he does for the consumer. I don't think that Mr. Cook will release sub-par products, but I believe he will make decisions that improve profit and market position over satisfying every last consumer.

With that said, it's just business, get over it.

My gripe as with many others here in the UK is, it's not that they bumped up the specs it's because we were told the ipad 3 was future proof with regards to 4G ect.I bought the cellular version for this reason plus many others. Now to be told its not and will never be compatible is a kick in the teeth..I paid the premium for this option and 4G is rolling out with some of the networks..The network I use in the UK is three,,this network is aimed at the data user and offers very good deals in deed compared to others. No doubt they will be using 4G very soon, but I won't be able to move up to this at all unless I buy the ipad 4.This isn't an option, so to me I was miss old the ipad 3 with regard to this..I couldn't return it as I bought it some months ago. This is why some of us in the UK now feel bitter and rightly so..
