Ibooks 3 update doesn't work on iOS 5

iBooks also does not work with the iPhone on OS 5. Had to use the advice on this thread to restore my old version. Luckily I did not update my iPad 2. DO NOT UPDATE TO ibook3!

Installed the newly released iBooks 3.01 on my 1st gen iPad and no more crashes.

I am experiencing similar problem. Ibooks crashes everytime I open store's home page or use browse by author page. I can only see my purchased books. My configuration is Ipad1, Ios 5 latest upgrade and ibooks 3- also latest version.

I also have the same problem, ibooks and the App store crash after updating to IOS 5.1.1. I assumed this was something Apple was aware of, and kept putting off contacting them thru several ibooks updates with no resolution. I called Apple support about 10 days ago. Initially they tried to say my machine was too slow to support the latest apps like iBooks! Eventually I got to a sympathetic level 2 person. I also reported that the volume did not work either after the 5.1.1 update. She evidently found something and agreed to replace my existing ipad by a new gen 1 machine. This came at 4.3.5 which I immediately updated to 5.1.1 and again ibooks crashes. I contacted the level 2 support person and even supplied Apple a step by step scenario to repeat the failure. Allegedly, 10 days later engineering is allegedly looking at the problem. I keep asking Apple that they should send me a new machine if they can not fix the problem. The only apps which crash are ibooks and the App store. Right now Ibooks is the only app on my ipad and I can easily reproduce the problem. Why no one tried to repeat the failure on the unit I returned is beyond me. Right now Customer Support is waiting for Engineering to determine the Root Cause for problem crashes. I've heard all about root cause analysis from the company I used to work for. Find out who to blame is more important than actually fixing the crashes.

I'd like to ask all Gen 1 ipad owners to call Apple Support about the ibooks crashes. Apple has accepted that this is a problem with their software, ios 5.1.1, and gen 1 ipads. Maybe if Apple gets a ton of problem calls they will actually try to fix the problem.
