IBooks 3 crashes on start up on iPad 1

I updated to iBooks 3 last night on my iPad 1. iBooks now crashes whenever I try to start it. Is anyone else having this issue and can anyone offer a solution? Also, is there any way to revert to a previous version of an app?

Just to follow up on my last post... As I was adding documents back to my ipad one at a time, I can now confirm that in my case it was a single PDF file that was causing the crash. With iBooks open and the ipad connected to computer/itunes, adding this 1 particular PDF causes iBooks to crash the minute the file gets sent to the ipad.

So, it's definitely something to do with the the way iBooks handles PDFs that are either non-standard in some way or have some feature that iBooks is choking on. (The PDF in question opened fine on the old version of iBooks as well as adobe and several other readers.)

Good luck!

Someone above mentioned to backup all your iBooks both ePubs and PDF's and then start deleting them in iTunes one at a time after clicking on your "Device".

NOTE: DO NOT delete documents from "Library" and "Books".

Delete them from your device instead.

Try iBooks between each delete and delete more until you get to the PDF that is causing the problem.

I don't know if this works because mine works.

This is ridiculous. But I think it could be the PDF file, because before the upgrade, I was reading a PDF and after upgrade it crashes. The solution I found, open PDF in Kindle app, lol. But on a serious note, if I understood correctly, if I delete the PDF of my iPad and re-add it again it will work? Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this? Thanks (not to you Apple)

Having more than 200 books and maybe 300 pdfs nicely sorted in different categories on my Ipad I absolutely don't want to delete or make a total re-install of all...

Where is APPLE in this... seems we have got us a new Microsoft, and now needs to find other more reliable providers?

Any of you who have good experiences with a more stable alternative to Ipad?

I can confirm that the problem seems to be with PDF files. I deleted all the PDF files from my copy of iBooks (running on an iPad 1 under IOS 5.1.1) and the program opened fine, with all my books in their proper collection. I then started adding back PDFs in small groups. The ones that I have restored so far have not caused any problems with the program and have all been restored to the collections they were in before. One file that I had been reading before the trouble even reopened to the page it had been on.

I had the same problem with the iPad 1... IBooks 3 wouldn't boot after the update. I double tapped the system button at the bottom... Shut down iBooks (held until the 'x' pops up and ap x). I went ahead and rebooted the iPad... iBooks 3 is now working fine. I'm guessing there was a problem synching because iBooks 2 was running when the update was applied. Resetting the app and clearing out the memory seems to have done the trick.

I also had this kind of problems, but my iPad1 is a 16gb. In my case, it appears to be a problem caused by low memory, or so it points out the crash logs the ipad is generating (eg, title LowMemory-2012-10-25-004434.log).

The crash happened with both PDFs and ePubs, but I could still use the smaller ones, and some I opened and after turning some pages, just crashed (and a similar log issued).

Since iBooks 2 worked fine, I decided to revert to that version. A member here, J. Jordan, helped me to install the previous versions. If you are interested in going that route you willl have to try and locate iBooks 2.1.1.ipa that might be somewhere in the Trash, iPad backups, or ~/Music/iTunes/iTumes Media/Mobile Applications.

Just be extra careful with your ebooks as it requires uninstalling iBooks 3.
