Left click not working (freezing) on rMBP

I'm having the same issue. This needs to get fix asap. really frustrating 😠.

Having the same issue on MacBook Pro 3,1 after mountain lion upgrade, I can see my cursor but can not click on anything, have to use keyboard to navigate and restart the system to get it back.

I've been to the apple store. They restored an older version of mountain lion. for 5 days I didnt have the issue. Today its back. This really blows.The only work around I have is to put my machine to sleep immediately after power on and then wake it back up. Most of the time this restores left clicks and selection.

I am having the same issue. The workaround from Christoper Allen1 worked for me. But this is not aceptable.

My specs are:

MacBook Pro

Retina, Mid 2012

Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Software OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)

Very frustrasting.

The issue continues. Still using the workaround from Christoper Allen1. But, I want to add, now the problem appears whenever I connect an external monitor using ad DVI to HDMI cable. The monitor is an HPw1907.

I have been dealing with this issue since Lion and now I'm still dealing with it on Mountain Lion. Sleep/wake cycling the computer only helps sometimes, often I'm forced to turn the machine off completely by holding down the power button. The machine is so unusable when the left click is 'permanently down' that shutting down and restarting the 'correct' way isn't possible. The issue crops up randomly on wake, but the odds of it happening increase if I connect an additional display. Note that the issue also occured with my older non-retina MacBook Pro after upgrading to Lion.

I am now having this same problem with my retina macbook pro with 10.8.2. Left click will stop working on the trackpad as well as any other mouse device plugged into the usb port. Only way to fix this is to put the machine to sleep. The following does NOT fix it:

1.) SMC reset

2.) PRAM reset

3.) Restarting

4.) Power cycling

W00fa did you ever fix your left click problem?

Actually I just fixed it.... I think. I reinstalled Mountain Lion just now. It was happening everytime I turned my Macbook on from being powered off. I have done 4 power cycles and its not happening anymore. Hopefully it stays this way.

Also my Macbook Pro is shutting down much faster since the reinstall. 🙂

I use a mid 2012 MPB (no retina) and run into the same problem.

After EVERY boot I have to put my MAC into sleep mode. Close the lid and opening it after a few seconds 'solved' the problem until the next power cycle...

Very annoying

Just got a macbook pro retina display 15in and realized I could not select text or move windows with the mouse. Was really frustating as I need to use the logitech mouse as i work in Parallels/Windows 7 quite a bit and need to get an answer. Not sure if this is what everyone else is running into or just those who have a Logitech mouse, but once I turned off "Secondary Click" in System Preferences>Trackpad and deselect it, my mouse was able to drag and select again.

Now the problem is trying to figure out how to make it work all the time.

I experience the left-click problem frequently. Many times I have rebooted to get past the issue but recently learned a new way to get the left click functioning again. This solution may not fix every instance of the problem but it's worth a shot.

Press the left click button while holding the Command button on the keyboard. The left-click functions resume immediately without rebooting.

I am fairly new to the Mac world but I am learning little by little.

I think the issue is that if you have another mouse on, in a briefcase for example, then that leads to the left button flakiness. I was convinced it was the "bulging battery" scenario until I found my spare mouse on and connected to my laptop.
