Hey Sharrice!

I actually experienced the same problem with my iPhone 3GS even though I set it to silent it automatically set it off of silent,

This is what I did to combat that problem,

Go into:

Settings > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > On

And click on that little box and go to:

Device > Mute

To unmute or more cohesiveness just go to:

Settings > Accessibility > Triple Click Home

And select Assistive Touch, this will enable that little box every single time you click the home button 3 times and will also turn it off when you click it 3 times!

Hope it helped!

My iPad never shuts off unexpectedly, the sound does. Sometimes it comes back on for a minute, then the sound stops again. I can't hear it now and haven't been able to for over a day. This issue has been going on for a number of weeks. I thought it came from a game I downloaded so I waited til an update for that game came up. I updated the game but still have the issue. Obviously, it might not have even the game at all. I am not computer savvy.

Hey Guys..Well guess i have similar problem as well but mines the other way around. I have an ipad2 and recently i notice that everytime i try to restart my device. The speaker icon appears (that icon that shows up when you press the side volume button) and the bar automatically goes to the max. I removed my case already but still it does the same thing. I can only lower the volume but each time i press the UP button. Its doesnt respond. Is this maybe a bug in IOS6?

I don't mean to sound dumb, but I am ignorant on this subject. Do you have the time to tell me what exactly will happen if Ido this? Is it just a basic resetting? I'm just nervous cuz I like my iPad and don't want to screw with it too much without a responsible person with me if I need help. I see you are classified 'level 8' and that helps! Just trying to be careful now.

What this does is reset all of the settings that are in the settings app - back to factory defaults. You will not lose any content or data - but you will have to enter all of those settings again.

Brightness, wallpaper, the home screen layout, the keyboard dictionary ... those types of settings all return to "out of the box" conditions.

I suggested this because you said that you no longer see the round button on the slider bar in the music app. If you double tap the home button to get to the recents tray at the bottom of the iPad - do you see a speaker icon on the left side? Do you see a complete volume slider bar on the right side?
