The nice thing about deleting apps is that you can always download them again. The downside is if you have data in the apps - unless you backup the iPad - you will lose the data. So I would suggest backing up your iPad before you start deleting stuff. This explains how to backup and how to restore from a backup.

If you think that there is an app or game that might be worth deleting, give it a try. You can always download it again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to purchase it.

OK. That's why I suggested resetting all settings. I have seen that work for the problem that you are experiencing. There is no guarantee that it will work, but I have seen it work in the past.

But If you are not comfortable with resetting all of the settings - then don't do it. I don't want you to try something that you're not comfortable doing.

Do you backup your iPad with iTunes?

Off & on is what I meant to type up there!

Start with this and see if it clears up either - or both problems.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Hi. Thank you for trying to help. Unfortunately, my iPad did turn off but turned itself right back on and still has no sound.

Actually the iPad should turn back on again when you reboot the iPad. I am curious to know if it prevents the iPad from shutting off unexpectedly now.

    Hey Sharrice!

I actually experienced the same problem with my iPhone 3GS even though I set it to silent it automatically set it off of silent,

This is what I did to combat that problem,

    Go into:

Settings > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > On

And click on that little box and go to:

    Device > Mute

To unmute or more cohesiveness just go to:

Settings > Accessibility > Triple Click Home

And select Assistive Touch, this will enable that little box every single time you click the home button 3 times and will also turn it off when you click it 3 times!

    Hope it helped!

My iPad never shuts off unexpectedly, the sound does. Sometimes it comes back on for a minute, then the sound stops again. I can't hear it now and haven't been able to for over a day. This issue has been going on for a number of weeks. I thought it came from a game I downloaded so I waited til an update for that game came up. I updated the game but still have the issue. Obviously, it might not have even the game at all. I am not computer savvy.

Thank you so much for helping. I can't find my accessibility button once I'm n my settings.

  • Sharricemenne Level 1 Level 1

Ok. I found it! But I still have no sound! :( EXAMPLE when I go to my music, the bar for highering and lowering sound, well, it usually has a small circle button to move left and right, that is GONE. I have no sound.

Hey Guys..Well guess i have similar problem as well but mines the other way around. I have an ipad2 and recently i notice that everytime i try to restart my device. The speaker icon appears (that icon that shows up when you press the side volume button) and the bar automatically goes to the max. I removed my case already but still it does the same thing. I can only lower the volume but each time i press the UP button. Its doesnt respond. Is this maybe a bug in IOS6?

See if this helps for the no sound issue.

Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again if you try this.

I don't mean to sound dumb, but I am ignorant on this subject. Do you have the time to tell me what exactly will happen if Ido this? Is it just a basic resetting? I'm just nervous cuz I like my iPad and don't want to screw with it too much without a responsible person with me if I need help. I see you are classified 'level 8' and that helps! Just trying to be careful now.

What this does is reset all of the settings that are in the settings app - back to factory defaults. You will not lose any content or data - but you will have to enter all of those settings again.

Brightness, wallpaper, the home screen layout, the keyboard dictionary ... those types of settings all return to "out of the box" conditions.

I suggested this because you said that you no longer see the round button on the slider bar in the music app. If you double tap the home button to get to the recents tray at the bottom of the iPad - do you see a speaker icon on the left side? Do you see a complete volume slider bar on the right side?

Oh man. Ok. I double clicked the home button and got to the main screen slider on the bottom of my iPad. I slashed over and got to the picture you are showing me. Get this......to the far left is the brightness, see that circular button? I have that. It works. See the one next to the music note icon? :( mine is gone. It's just NOT THERE.

Perhaps updating my iPad / iCloud again? I'm going to try but might be a few days til I find someone who has wifi I can trust to leave iPad with.
