Mac Mini 2012 video blinking out

I just got my 2012 Mac Mini yesterday (mid range model) and have already noticed three instances where the video would blink out for about a half second, and then come right back. This happend twice already when I'm connected to a Apple 23 inch LCD monitor via the included HDMI-DVI adapter and once when I'm connected via HDMI to my Samsung LCD TV. Anyone else noticing this happening on their Mac Minis? Thanks.

I got my replacement last sunday. So far I have not had an issue. But, I'm not entirely comfortable yet. The problem with me is that I don't use the mac as much as others here are.

Setting up my "new" new mac mini I did not have any handshake issues in Finder/Desktop after spending over an hour and a half reisntalling software and doing Apple software updates. I've been in and out of plex, setting things up, and no issues either. But I have not really spent much time in front of the TV on the mac mini.

I'm not convinced I am fixed. But if I am, this implies a hardware issue. And if I'm living with a looming hardware issue, that maybe I just have not triggered yet, I wouldn't mind some sort of deal on the $150 applecare beyond the 1yr! yeah - long shot.

If it's a hardware issue, and some replacements are working, maybe the serial number can reveal when the macs were made, and in what plant. But the normal serial number decoders sites are not aware of this new machine yet. Does anyone know of others?

I'v got the same problem on my new late 2012 macmini i bought last week here in The Netherlands.

Sometimes my screen goes black for a second. One time i also noted some flickering white blocks in my login screen.

I've got the quadcore i7 with 4gig memory, and i have a 20inch cinemadisplay hoocked up with the hdm>dvi adapter that came with the mini. I really hope this can be corrected with a software update! :-(

I just got off the phone with Apple tech support to "register" my problem in case I have to wait awhile for a fix. I want to be sure they know it's a day-one problem that I expect to be covered under warranty.

The tech said there was a special set of questions for this problem that we went through so it looks like Apple is on top of the problem.

He also said that once there was a resolution that they would track the serial numbers of customers and notify them. Please ensure you've registered your mini with them.

Opened a support ticket today and had a long and rather disappointing call with US AppleCare Support. They had no knowledge or information on this issue, and after waiting on hold to confer with a senior suppor rep and running through the obvious troubleshooting scenarios the final suggestion was to take it back to the store so they could check it there.

How you reproduce a random // interemittent event at the Genius Bar in any reasonable amount of time without getting lucky seems unlikely. I've got a few more days before my 14 are up. Hopefully some news or a fix in the next 48 hours or so.

Same problem here. I have the 2.3 i7 Mini for about 2 weeks, but till yesterday I used it with Thunderbolt as video output (TB to VGA). Never experienced the black screen. Then I switched back to the original HDMI-DVI cable, in order to see if I also have this issue. And yes, I do have. Now I have to decide VERY fast, if I keep my mini or send it back (tomorrow is the deadline)...:(

And one more thing... This crazy HDMI port has an other issue too. Using an HDMI-to-HDMI cable makes the picture quality ... hmm... strange. It's washed out, I think the contrast is way too high (but I can't adjust it).

I have experienced this issue on two Mac Minis 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 (late 2012) connecting to a Samsung monitor using the supplied HDMI to DVI cable and the DVI cable which came with my monitor. This Samsung monitor and DVI cable combination has been used with a previous Windows PC continuously over a number of years without fault.

My first Mac Mini demonstrated two symptoms

1. On random occasions (approximately one time per hour), the screen will go blank for a second, maybe two, and then come back on again.

2. On random occasions (approximately one time per hour), the screen will display a "snow storm" like appearance, similar to an untuned analogue TV screen. To rectify this situation either disconnecting the DVI cable or power cycling the monitor brings the display back.

After logging a call and much discussion and a visit to an Apple Genius bar, this Mac Mini was replaced.

My second Mac Mini has so far only demonstrated symptom 1 once so far, though I'm sure it will continue. I've logged a call again for this new Mac and I've been encouraged to try this mac with a new monitor and cable.

I am now wondering what my best options are, things I am considering are

a) Maybe it is my Samsung Monitor that is the issue? Seems unlikely since my Windows PC works on it. Maybe I need a new/different screen?

b) Maybe I have received my second Mac Mini with faulty hardware? Do I try to exchange onto my third Mac Mini?

c) Maybe there is a software/firmware fix coming? This is a gamble with a deadline. I'm not sure if I can wait given the time deadlines required for exchange or refund?

d) I could try to get a mini display port to DVI connector (that's money from my pocket, and an example of throwing good money after bad) and use that assuming it works -- mixed reports on this -- until apple fixes the HDMI issue? This also rules out the option of me using this Mac Mini occasionally on my TV using HDMI without experiencing the issues.
