My new time capsule arrived this morning, but doesn't seem to be working - need help!

Aloha:

When I first plugged in the Capsule all seemed to be going along fine and after a short time I got a steady green light.

I am not quite sure what caused it but now all I get is a blinking amber light. I can't get control back.

Help, what might I have done to cause that problem???

Thanks

Yeah, I got it.. let me show you the final setup.. I moved and locked the IP on the TC.. just so you can see that done.

Not all of this is necessary.. and there are many many ways to skin the cat.

Put the TC in bridge.

Set an IP address.

Update the TC and ignore any other problems.

Set the IP of the ethernet..

You can expect to lose connection as you swap IP around.. just think through each step. If it all messes up.. press reset and start over..

Hi:

Still not out of the woods yet .Airport on and working fine.

I can aalso get the steady green light showing on the TC. It comes up ok on the airport utility, but I can't get it to be my Time Capsule??.

Which port on the TC should I be connecting to on my computer ethernet?

Thanks Dan

Reset TM and redo the search for the TC.. I presume that is what you mean by cannot be my Time Capsule? it is your time capsule.. no matter what it does.. but it can fail to be identified in TM.. that is not unusual.. Look at Pondini troubleshooting A4.

Plug LAN port to the computer.

Post the pictures from the airport utility so I can see the setup.

Thanks again for the reply.I finally got this thing working and it has been backing up for several hours now. Definately a local world record.

I just now got your last message, so did not know that I should plug the LAN port into the computer. I have one of the <---> ports plugged into my computer. I don't dare move it...it's working!!

Might it work better if I use the LAN port?

Thanks again

Them's is LAN ports.. surely are.. 3 of them have that symbo and one.. has a sort of starburst that is the WAN..

BUT.. in bridge.. they are all LAN ports anyway..

AND congrats.. it sounds like you are nearly there to having a backup.

You were beginning to run me dry of ideas..
